Shyamalan talks The Happening & The Last Airbender in recent interview
Monday, October 6th, 2008 by Dr Malcolm CroweA couple journalists recently had the opportunity to sit in on a mini-conference call with M. Night Shyamalan. MovieWeb.com’s Brian Gallagher was one of those journalists.
Q: Is there anything you can tell us about The Last Airbender?
M. Night Shyamalan: It is gonna be really cool (Laughs). I’m at the stage where we have pre-vized the last act of the movie. Because my normal approach to filmmaking is almost like making an animated movie, you take out every shot and analyze everything, it kind of lays out really nicely for a big CGI movie. That is such a helpful thing in the process with all the pre-viz. I feel like I’m making the movie right now. I’m editing it and stuff because doing the pre-viz, if you were here, I could show you the last 30 minutes of The Last Airbender in animatic form. It’s an amazing and emotional experience, just to watch that.
I highly recommend checking out the full interview. They talk a lot about The Happening and the process of getting it made. They also touch a little bit more on The Last Airbender and an Unbreakable sequel.

M. Night planning new original film for after The Last Airbender
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 by Dr Malcolm CroweBloody-Disgusting.com recently sat down with M. Night Shyamalan to talk about The Happening coming to DVD & Blu-ray Disc next week and somehow got him to tease the notion of him directing an original idea after The Last Airbender.
“In my head I have three ideas that are fighting to be the next spec,” Shyamalan explains. “One is more straight up scary, one is more light hearted scary – kind of more in the Signs vein, which I had a great time doing the lighter end on that one – the other one isn’t… well, it’s not Gothic… but I am always in that world when I am working on original ideas. I will be shooting that one in 2010, so I have some time to decide.”

That brings its domestic total to $50.7 million, making it the 3rd biggest rated-R movie of the year. ‘The Happening’ Grosses Estimated 62.6 Million Worldwide on Opening Weekend
Sunday, June 15th, 2008 by BenKimOverseas, “Happening” narrowly beat “Hulk” in grossing an estimated $32.1 million from 5,714 runs. “Hulk,” playing in far fewer locations, grossed $31 million from 3,165.
“Happening,” bowing in 2,986, also made the record books. The horror-thriller, playing in 2,984 runs, is the second-best June opening for an R-rated film after raunchy laffer “Knocked Up,” which opened last year to $30.7 million. And now the Weekend Box-Office Estimates are in
Sunday, June 15th, 2008 by Dr Malcolm CroweBoxOfficeMojo.com has now posted the studio box-office estimates for the weekend of June 13th-15th, and the figures for The Happening put it as Shyamalan’s 3rd biggest opening weekend ever at $30.5 million. A couple other sources estimate the weekend take at $32.3 million – but we’ll have to wait til Monday afternoon to get the official numbers. All in all, this is pretty encouraging news considering some insiders predicted an opening of only $18 million.
Looks like The Happening will be a bounce back for Night after the financial disappointment of Lady in the Water.
