Council Rock grad to appear in Shyamalan’s ‘Happening’

At 5 a.m. on a July morning last year, Newtown native Megan Mazaika awoke in her Philadelphia apartment with a sense of dread that the events of the day before had all been a dream. After all, what were the chances that she’d won a role in the first film she ever auditioned for, a part for which possibly hundreds of women had auditioned?

“I went in for it and promptly dismissed it as a possibility,” she had confessed on her MySpace blog.

Nevertheless, the 1998 graduate of Council Rock High School “got the call” that she’d been chosen. On Friday the 13thin June, Mazaika will debut in “The Happening” as an ordinary American girl who copes with a natural disaster. It’s the latest film from Oscar-nominated director M. Night Shyamalan, the Montgomery County native who is known for setting his films in the Delaware Valley area.
