Title: The Happeing-Friday the 13th
Post by: Mr_Glass.1 on January 12, 2008, 01:33:07 PM
Did anybody else notice the release date for The Happening is June, Friday 13.  Sound like an interesting date to put a film opening.  I think he may have done it on purpose, the Incredible Hulk also comes out that day, so I am going to be busy.  Anyway, just wondering what other people thought.

Yeah, they mentioned this back when they first announced the movie. Night and Fox specifically choose the Friday 13th as the perfect worldwide release date and marketing tool.

I think it will work.  It's very interesting and probably means that it will have a much more dialed up scare factor.

I am interesting in seeing how having basically a single worldwide release date goes, it will be the first for Night.

That's true, I hadn't thought about that.  One worldwide release date.  That could be good, a Friday night, an attempt by Shyamalan to rejuvinate himself in the public eye.  I'm hoping something along the lines of what happened with The Sixth Sense, some people watch it, the critics like it, and the word spreads.

That's good.

I don't think that the Friday the 13th day is a good idea. It sounds like a simple gimmick that has been played out...But, whatever.

That's true, it has been a somewhat overused gimmik, but I think with M. Night Shyamalan it will work.

Yeah, it's a gimmick, but thats the kind of thing Night's into. Its an added effect to the theatrical experience, it's also an easy date to remember. You'd be surprised how many people make it a tradition to see movies on Friday the 13th.

Woooo!!! The Happening!!!

There are a couple of countries that won't be getting this on June 13, some will get it a day or two before actually.

Markets that will get a Friday the 13th release:

USA
UK
Australia
Spain
Russia
Turkey
Iceland

more may or may not join that date. only time will tell.

Why the heck would they make another Incredibal Hulk?  Who wants to go see that when the first one sucked really bad!?

I hope The Happening STOMPS that movie into the ground!  YES!

Well, this time around The Incredible Hulk stars Ed Norton, and William Hurt. Already a vast improvement over the first film. I have a feeling the release date for Hulk might get pushed back.

Either way, I know The Happening will be a better movie, but I am not to thrilled about the possible competition.

Okay, first of all Lifeordeath1 they are making another Hulk because the first one bombed.  They are hoping to rejuvinate it, everything, new actors, new story, new everything, except for Marvel of course.  They are going to have the Hulk fight the Abomination, another Hulk like creature, giving it much mroe action.  Marvel has a strong fanbase and I don't think The Happening will stomp it into the ground, in fact I am a little worried about the competition.  I plan on seeing both movies opening day, if not opening showing.

I have a friend who loves Edward Norton and will def be there opening day!  I hope it's better!  I guess I wasnt a fan of the other one because it was so cheesy.  Hopefully it is a vast imporvment!  One ? though Mr. Glass.  Is Marvel promoting this new Hulk or is it not?  I was a little confused because you said "except for Marvel" and then "Marvel has a strong fan base".

Either way The Happening is going to be awesome!

Sorry about the confusing wording, what I meant was that the new Incredible Hulk is entirely new, except for the fact that Marvel is involved.  Any Marvel movie will almost always recoup what it cost to make, though it might not be popular, just because of the Marvel fanbase.  It is promoting the Incredible Hulk, but not enough, it is getting drowned out by Iron Man, and the Dark Knight.  Yes, The Happening is going to be great.

I am interested in seeing a trailer for The Incredible Hulk. As of right now, I'm not planning on seeing it in theaters. Iron Man looks promising. The Dark Knight will dominate all.  ;D

I have to agree with you there.  Marvel will recoup what it cost to make the film.  Is there a movie that has not done good for them?  I also agree about the non promoting issue.  Whats up with that?  The only things I have heard about IH is word of mouth, nothing else.  Excuse my knowledge of Marvel, but is Iron Man Marvel?

Yes, Iron Man is Marvel comics while the Dark Knight is DC comics.  The two biggest rivals in the comic book industry.  Yea, who knows why the Incredible Hulk isn't getting enough promotion, but I don't know why.  Yes, every movie of their will at least recoup what it has lost, if not more.  The Dark Knight will be really good but I am thinking Iron Man might do better, what gives the edge to the Dark Knight is that it already had a film come out.  Also, Batman is one of the most popular superheros of all time.

And Batman Begins is arguably the best superhero film of all time.

Yea, it was such an incredibly good movie, it's one of my favorite along with the X-Men, do you know what else was good, Daredevil, that was good.  I'm a big superhero fan though.  So I am pretty excited about this year.

I did not think Daredevil was good. In fact, I think it's one of the worse Superhero movies in recent years. That's just my opinion though.  ;)

No, that's fine, I beg to differ though.  What didn't you like about Daredevil, I'd like to know, who knows, maybe we'll agree on one or two things.

I didn't like the acting (and the casting for that matter), the use of music, the visual style, and the lack of authenticity. The story wasn't half bad, but all of the above made it unbelievable (in the truest sense of the word  ;)).

At least for me anyway.

No, that's cool.  I like it and I thought the acting was good, but a lot of people didn't like the acting.  Yea, the visual style was weird, along with the color palate, I wonder if they were experimenting with something.  I actually liked the music and want to buy the soundtrack.  What do you mean by the lack of authenticity?  I was just wondering. ;D

Wow.  Daredevil is in my top 3 worst movies of all time.  Terrible.  Boring.  But, I guess if your a big comic fan then.  Who does the soundtrack?

I guess we should stick to the Subject though.

The world felt very exaggerated and unrealistic. I guess superhero movie worlds should be larger-than-life to some extent, but the way it was done in Daredevil made it difficult at buying into anything.

There seems to be no official word yet on the release date for Mexico. My guess is that it will see the Friday the 13th release date, but I wouldn't count my chicks before they hatch.

I might assume that because it's in North America, but I wouldn't do that for fear of counting my chicks before they hatch.

Nope, haven't heard anything about Canada yet either.  By the way Dr Malcom Crowe, I like your signature of Shyamalan, he looks so relaxed and happy, nice pick.

Thanks. I had my previous signature for a while (since Lady in the Water,) it was time for a change. This is one of my favorite pictures of Night, so I figured I'd incorporate it into my sig.  ;D

Yea, it's good, I also like the orange that comes out.  I don't look good in orange but he does.  He seems like a real classy guy.
