Title: The Hobbit?
Post by: Lifeordeath1 on January 27, 2008, 10:41:03 PM
Does anyone know anything about the new Hobbit movie Peter Jackson is doing?  I read something about it starting filming this coming fall, this true?  Elijah Wood was commenting something about it, but said he didnt think there was a part for him.  Loved LOTR so dont want to miss out on this Peter Jackson miracle!

Peter Jackson won't be directing. It's not even known if he will be writing. The only confirmed involvement he has is as a Producer.

No, I heard he was going to direct.  Yes, The Hobbit is official, but as of now it is going to be made into two films.  Elijah Wood wouldn't be in it because there is no Frodo.  They might start filming this year, because Peter Jackson said he wanted to have the first film come out at the end of 2009 and the second at the end of 2010.

Nah, he's not directing. He will be overseeing the script (but not writing), and he will be producing. It looks like Guillermo Del Toro might be directing. Production will start in 2009, with a release in 2010 and 2011.

Also, they aren't splitting The Hobbit into 2 films, rather they are making a 'bridge' movie that connects the gap between The Hobbit and Fellowship. So Frodo might make an appearance in the 2nd film.

Okay, one step at a time.  That's fine that Peter Jackson is only producing, in fact that would be great if Guillermo Del Toro directed them, he's a really good director.  Second, how could they make a bridge film when there wasn't even a book about that.  I'm not going to jump to conclusions, but they are on the verge of ticking me off.

Yeah, it should be interesting see what they do, and how people react to it.

It was MGM who expressed interest in another prequel film, set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Peter Jackson concurred, stating "one of the drawbacks of The Hobbit is [that] it's relatively lightweight compared to LOTR... There...[are] a lot of sections in which a character like Gandalf disappears for a while. From memory ? I mean, I haven't read it for a while now ? but I think he references going off to meet with the White Council, who are actually characters like Galadriel and Saruman and people that we see in Lord of the Rings. He mysteriously vanishes for a while and then comes back, but we don't really know what goes on."

That might give insight into what the filmmakers have in mind.

I'm a huge Middle Earth fan, I read all the books once a year, so now that I think about it.  There are no large stories, but pulling from information given in the books I could see how they could make a movie in between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.

It's pretty much been confirmed that Guillermo Del Toro has signed on to direct both movies.

With his work on Pan's Labyrinth, The Hobbit looks like it is going to be a winner too, even though it is a bit sad that Jackson won't be at the helm.

I think Peter Jackson will always be the ideal director, but I think it will be interesting to see how someone like Del Toro paces the film. I think it could turn out better than if Jackson did it in that sense.

Yea, that's true, and still Peter Jackson will be producing it, and he will probably have a lot of control over what happens.

I think Guillermo Del Toro will do an amazing job! The Hobbit will need a different feel then The Lord of The Rings Films, and Del Toro is just the right man. It's gonna' be fantastic!

I think Guillermo Del Toro will do a great job, I also really hope Howard Shore returns to the job of scoring the movie (or movies, whichever it is going to be).
