Title: When is the DVD release?
Post by: theos on July 18, 2008, 04:14:19 AM
Does anyone know when will the official DVD be released? I don't know any sites where I can look for such information.

(Here, in Russia, it has already been released in a cheap edition - no special features, just the movie with russian and ukrainian audio. But I'm really looking forward to watching it in english and seeing all those deleted scenes and behind the scenes :))

I am really looking forward the DVD release too, because here in Hungary The Happening was presented only with Hungarian audio (dub). I just do not understand why?  ???
You are lucky anyway to have a copy so early, aren't you?  :P

I saw eysterday the german DVD version of the film, and it was just in german. There were some scenes cut, those where there should be blood.
In Spain there is no officila DVD yet, we'll have to wait at least untill november

I don't think a 2-Disc is likely, but I guess weirder things have happened - no pun intended  ;)

The typical theater-to-disc time frame is 4 or 5 months, Night's films typically being the latter. So that puts a release date around October-November.

Right, Malcom? Maybe all this will have a twist ending  ;)

2 Disc set will be awesome. I can't wait if they come out with it.

The movie is so short, there really isn't much of a need for it. There is probably plenty of space for enough supplemental material.

Actually that make sense. I never thought about that.  8)

A November release would be good, right around my birthday.  Unbreakable had a two disk set.  Lots of special features.  Maybe The Happening will also.
Title: Re: When is the DVD release?
Post by: Dr Malcolm Crowe on July 26, 2008, 01:43:42 PM
I doubt it, Night hasn't had a 2-disc DVD since Unbreakable. There probably isn't a need for it. Of course, I would love for there to be hours of extras, but if it's just the usual 40-50 mins - it should be able to fit on 1 disc, so why waste money to put it on 2?

*UPDATE*   I just read that Fox is giving "What Happens in Vegas" a 2-Disc release (which contains a 'digital copy') -- so maybe there is hope for a 2-Disc release of The Happening.
Title: Re: When is the DVD release?
Post by: Erik on July 27, 2008, 06:49:14 AM
I don't think The Happening has really much intresting bonus material which cannot be placed on the same disc as the movie. So a one-disc release might be the only release. Perhaps that a large scaled movie like the Airbender trilogy gets a 2-disc release per movie?
Though, I already look forward to The Happening on DVD!

The Blu-ray edition will have all of the above as well as: a "Digital Copy" of the film, "Train Shooting" featurette, and a "DBOX" feature - D-BOX Motion Code? system creates real-life motion in your seat that?s perfectly synced to the action you see on screen.

Hi,
I don't really know when we'll have this DVD in Spain, I hope soon, but normally we have to wait more than you.
I wanted to ask you about that 1 hour bonus extra: Do you know what it's about? New end, cut scenes? Will we find some answers?
Personally I love the film how it is, even when the cut scenes give sometimes more information about ppossible "holes" in the story.
In this case I like how the story is and I'm just curious about what that hour will show us.

Okay, on british amazon they have three versions up for pre-order:

1) Blu-Ray
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Happening-Blu-ray-Zooey-Deschanel/dp/B001EY5VJG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1221728909&sr=8-2
2) DVD
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Happening-Zooey-Deschanel/dp/B001CV18SY/ref=sr_1_48?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1221728975&sr=8-48
3) DVD + Digital Copy (???)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Happening-Disc-Bonus-Digital-Copy/dp/B001EY5VNW/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1221728932&sr=8-25

As I don't have a Blu-Ray Player I've never wondered what the digital copy is.
But now that I have to decide between DVD and DVD with Digital Copy.. Can someone please explain me what that is? :)))

The digital copy is pretty much what it sounds like, a digital copy for your computer. It is a file that  is easily transferable to your computer or iPod, etc. - so they say at least.

I can't wait either. I am excited.

I think they won't be releasing any 2 Disc set DVDs. Am I right?

No, there is no word of a 2 disc DVD yet.  :-\

Wow, I have one huge question, it said on the DVD cover that it had an hour of intense bonus footage not shown in theaters.  What in the world does that mean?  Kind of like a directors cut, I'm hoping.
Title: Re: When is the DVD release?
Post by: Dr Malcolm Crowe on September 27, 2008, 02:21:08 PM
I highly doubt it, that's just what Fox wants you to think. In reality it's probably just an hour of bonus footage (which of course you didn't see in theaters - duh)

Tricky marketing peoples...  :-\

You mean like stuff in the special features.  So overall it equals an hour.  I wish more DVD's did what X-Men did, where you can incorporate the deleted scenes into the overall movie.

I bet in fews years or less they will come out with all new dvds. Makes me mad. For example,UNBREAKABLE DVD came out with cool cover.

Is there any interest in having me write a review for my Blu-ray copy? I have it on pre-order and it should arrive a day or two after release. I used to reviews DVDs/Movies for another website (that has since been put up for sale). I haven't written anything recently but the idea just occurred to me that it might be cool to review an M. Night "Blu-ray Movie" for this website. I kinda love having his films on the format.

I wonder if it would be acceptable to submit something like that to the site as additional content for The Happening?

Even if no one is interested in something like that I will post back and let everyone know what I thought about the Blu-ray release in terms of general Video/Audio/Supplemental features and how they stack up. I'm hoping the DTS-HD-MA track will really impress. I didn't get the chance to see it digitally projected in any local theater and I did see it three times on the big screen so it is kind of a shame IMHO. This movie should look and sound awesome on Blu-ray if all goes well.
