Not all Jesus movies were powerful and perfectly made as THE PASSION.
The Passion is a unique movie.

The movies I listed above I don't want to see any remakes at all again.. ever....

Well,I think it can't be considered a remake anyway.

Scarface is also a remake, and same with Lord of the Rings.

I wouldn't count Passion of the Christ a remake. That argument would then qualify The Dark Knight as a remake and probably Titanic too.

LOTR is a remake of a cartoon.  So does that still count.
Title: Re: There should be no remakes at all on movies like...
Post by: marco on October 02, 2008, 09:05:05 AM
LoTR is not a remake, imho. There haven't been any other movies based on the book before this.I think the word "remake" refers only to a movie that copies partially o totally another movie made in the past, not a cartoon or what else.
Title: Re: There should be no remakes at all on movies like...
Post by: Dr Malcolm Crowe on October 02, 2008, 10:10:26 AM
So animated films don't count?

Yes, in my opinion they do.

LoTR can be classified as a remake.
Title: Re: There should be no remakes at all on movies like...
Post by: marco on October 02, 2008, 10:39:22 AM
Well,I think I should see this cartoon to be sure on this one,but that is my opinion about what is a remake ;)

So, is the live action 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close a remake?
Title: Re: There should be no remakes at all on movies like...
Post by: marco on October 03, 2008, 06:59:09 AM
This is different. If you're talking about a live-action (ex.: movies totally based on previous anime, like Death Note) then you're right, but coming back to LoTR I think Peter Jackson has followed the book, not that cartoon ;)
Title: Re: There should be no remakes at all on movies like...
Post by: Dr Malcolm Crowe on October 03, 2008, 12:13:36 PM
No they are the same.

Both stories are based off books.
Both stories were turned into animated films.
Both stories were turned into live-action films.

I'm not being really picky about this. Everyone doesn't have to start referring to LoTR as a remake, but I'm just pointing out people are holding it to a different standard for no reason at all really.

I see.We have very different points of view about that ;D
Title: Re: There should be no remakes at all on movies like...

LOTR is not a remake. It's a new interpretation of the trilogy of books and there have been other interpretations in the past like the cartoons.

Anyway, there are lot of legendary movies I would not want remade. Because then, if the remake is bad, then that's what a lot of people remember about it.

You guys know that they're remaking "Friday the 13th"?

They'er remaking "Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds", "Nighmare on Elm street", and I think "Childs Play" also.

I don't think they should ever remake "The Wizard of Oz" (not counting any crapy attemps to make other "versions" of it in the past). Nor any of the Terminator movies, or National Lampoon's Vacation movies. And they should never remake the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Yeah, that might have been one of the reasons they used her in Peter Jackson's "King Kong", because it was set in the 30's you know? (I love that movie by the way.)

10-No Country for old men
11-There will be blood
12-Titanic
13-The Dark Knight
14-Passion Of The Christ
15-BOURNE movies...

Please list yours as well.

Titanic ans Scarface are remakes...As popular and influential as The Sixth Sense was, it's bound to be remade with in the next 25 to 30 years.

I made this same argument at the Steven Spielberg forum and they convinced me that great stories deserved to be told to new generations with new insight into the stories, and I agree with them.  Now some of these movies you listed will be remade eventually.

Some movies seem to perfect to be remade, Holloween and Psycho are just two of them, but they were remade.  I still agree that certain movies should never be remade, but on the same hand, like I said before, great stories need new and different ways of telling them.  The question is, if the demand is there or not and if the studio's can make money off of the retelling of them or not.  It's cheaper to re-release a movie than to remake it, so one would think that they would just do that instead.  So, with that being said, we have to take inconsideration that it's not just financial reasons that movies are being made, I think it's also the sensibilities of the director to the material that also determines when and if a movie is remade.  When I'm in my 60's or 70's and The Sixth Sense is remade, I'm the first person in line, cause I can almost tell you that it will someday be remade.

Well okay, the whole point of this thread is that there should be no more remakes of those specific movies that I listed. I don't care if they are remakes now, I just don't want any more remakes.

I know Titanic is a remake, but seriously don't want to see anyone else play Jack Dawson and Rose in the next 20 years.

Thanks
