Title: Should There Be a "M. Night Shyamalan Boxset"?
Post by: Unbreakable888 on October 17, 2008, 09:05:27 AM
Just what the title subject says. I was thinking about all the movies that he's made in the past twenty years.

You have...

(1) Praying With Anger (1992)
(2) Labor of Love (1995) (Bastards - This one was supposed to be his break-out hit with Dustin Hoffman as the starring role)
(2) Wide Awake (1998)
(3) The Sixth Sense (1999)
No Ordinary Man (4) Unbreakable (2000)
(5) Signs (2002)
Grey The Woods (6) The Village (2004)
(7) Lady in the Water (2006)
Green Planet The Green Effect (08) The Happening (2008)

This fan-made boxset could be a celebration of all things Shyamalan. Every movie could be revamped and re-edited by using tools. See, there's a website I go to called www.fanedited.com which I found out because they actually have an extended version of Unbreakable there, called Absolutely Unbreakable.

You know how The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village got, "Vista Series"? Well, what if we went from that idea and made a "Ultimate Series"? The box-set of eight movies would have 16-discs, 2-discs per movie, which would have content from the original DVDs plus fan-made content such as early scripts, photos, trailers, trivial facts, goof-ups, etc. As well, to the movies that could be applied to, each and every movie would be extended-cut editions: completely rearranged by (me) and made to fit perfectly within the model. I'm thinking about buying movie editing software one day, I probably will actually.

Anyways, I was thinking of doing this because M. Night Shyamalan is going to take a break for his next three movies and deal with a franchise, rather than come up with a new idea to his line of movies. This would be like a fanbois way of showing his dedication to his favorite director (i.e. me) and I thought that maybe others would be interested in this as well, if it's possible.

So tell me what you think. Should we make a M. Night Shyamalan Movie Boxset with his first 8 feature films?

I'm figuring that getting pictures shouldn't be too hard. Maybe finding extra content for Praying With Anger and Wide Awake, might be difficult, but all the more the better, if you ask me.

Here's some drafts that I got off the web:
Labor of Love
The Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Signs
The Woods (Early draft of The Village, of course)
The Green Effect (Early draft of The Happening, of course)

Still need drafts of Praying With Anger, Wide Awake, and Lady in the Water. I'm surprised I couldn't find anything on Lady in the Water. If anyone wants to help me on this project, DON'T hesitant to. I'll eventually get something working here...

Edit:
This is my idea of an 'Ultimate Edition' version of one of his films (the rest to come).

1) Praying With Anger Ultimate Edition
Disc 1: Praying With Anger Director's Cut (with extended Canada's footage) with any revisions need be
Disc 1: Official Trailer, if any
Disc 1: My New Trailer
Disc 1: My own commentary of his first film
Disc 1: English and Spanish subtitles
Disc 1: Praying With Anger DVD soundtrack
Disc 2: Early photos of M Night Shyamalan
Disc 2: A biography of M Night Shyamalan
Disc 2: Comparisons of Shyamalan and Rev
Disc 2: A script of Praying With Anger
Disc 2: Photos on-set of the film
Disc 2: A short documentary on India (from one of those International Channels)

M. Night will probably have a giant box set of his films released in, say, twenty years. How it will be released exactly or what format (hopefully Blu-ray) will have to been seen then....

But I'm sure he will be considered a modern cinema legend by then. Even with all the backlash he currently receives. His movies will stand the test of time very well I think.

Boxset is a good idea. What I really want is a BOOK of his movies........ a BOOK. REAL HARD COVER BOOK.

You got to be kidding me. I have never considered THE SIXTH SENSE being a kid movie...

Yeah, there's like a little book out, I read it, it was okay, doesn't have a lot of the suspense that the film does though.

A box would be great. But I'd like an official box. Of course, the problem is that his movies are made by different companies, which would prevent a box with all of his films.

But as someone mentioned, there IS a box out with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs, called The M. Night Shyamalan Collection. And when The Village came out they did a new one with that one in it, at least here in Sweden.
