This is my favorite movie ever made. And ou want to know why? I'll tell you why. Because it's good.

First, this movie is so scary. I mean, who didn't have the same expression as Merril when he saw the Mexican alien? Shyamalan seamlessly blended J-horror with american acting, more so than the Ring or the Grudge could have ever hoped.

Second, this is an excellently directed and written film. It slowly unravels into a scary film, not like the crap-horror in america today.

Third, M. Night Shyamalan is in it!

This is a great movie. I agree with everything that Azi said, and I loved every second of it.

If you don't like it... well, that's your opinion. What do you want us to do? You want us to change your opinion? Lol...I don't really know if we can do that...

I loved every second of this movie, I loved how real it looks, and I love all the concepts of fate and coincidences that exist in the movie.
It doesn't have spaceships, weird eight legged aliens, or crappy CGI. It just tells us an amazing, beautiful story, that shows us the life of a small family, and how the alien imvasion affects them.

The acting is pretty good, and I think Shyamalan did a great job as a director and as a writer. The movie is amazing in both of those aspects....

And if you don't like it...well, that's your problem :P . You have your opinion, I have mine.

I love Signs.  It's great in that it doesn't really show you anything until the end.  One of the best shots is when they are showing you a wall, and slowly doing a close up on it.  Yeah, that's right, nothing but a wall in that shot, but they didn't have to show anything else.  The sound was key.  The music is also very very well orchestrated and some of the best ever written for film, with many layers to it.

You have to trust me, he wasn't. And a better word would be sarcastic.

And on the score, how perfect! The way that it could be slowed down from its fast-paced thriller tempo to the slower, more moving speed was brilliant.

wow, that is so true!  i completly agree with you.  i think it's one of the scariest scenes of the film and it's not because it's using tacky CGI effects or showing you so much gore that you want to throw up, it's just really amazingly constructed.

but what i love most about the film (and all of m night shyamalan's films) isn't how scary they are, because that isn't their strongest feature.  i love the characters that he creates which force you to envest emotion into their stories.

every single character is just so real.  my favourite is bo.  i love her so much.

i watched signs the other day, and even though i've seen it so many times before, i think i cried more this time than any other, and that isn't from how scary it is, it's from how much you love the characters.

First of all, let me congratulate me. This is my 100th post! Yay!

Signs is definitely my favorite of the 4 because you do feel a stronger attatchment than in any of his other films or Spielberg's while we're at it. The pure sense of fear, desperation, and fear bound this family together even more.

I loved this story because although it was about aliens invading earth, it was ultimately about a sinister man re-establishing his faith after something so tragic and unfair has happened to him.  And on the fact that everything, no matter how tragic, happens for a reason.

The little girl was a pest about the damn water  and left those glasses laying around everywhere for a reason, the little boy had asthma so  his lungs would close, the uncle never got his dream career as a baseball player so a bat would be right there on a mantle, and his wife died so she could tell her husband to "SWING AWAY".

I absolutely love his films because like someone else stated, it makes you invest in all the characters and he doesn't go for shock value like so many other film makers do.  I think thats why some people don't like it, because  they prefer to see a big bloody something instead of having to use their minds to imagine what terror is about to happen.  Which brings me to my favorite scene. When they show the alien in Mexico..... how many of us was on the edge of our seats like Joaquin's character wanting the kids to move so we could see what terror was lurking behind the trees.  M. Knight is frikkin awesome, I can't say anymore *sighs*

QUESTION: Why are there people here on this site that 'hate' this
movie; SIGNS? To me; THAT is what is stupid.
Title: Re: I Hate Signs
Post by: Rulm on December 18, 2007, 02:56:28 AM
The only reason someone may not like Signs is due to the SPOILER ALERT- "water killing aliens" part, but water killing the aliens is not really as far-fetched as some complain it is. War of the Worlds' aliens were killed by bacteria in the air--Night just replaced air with water--both are, as we all should know, extremely common in this planet! Lol. But the thing is, this is a movie about aliens; anything can happen, and trying to place logic in an alien related plot is just plain dumb. It may not have been ALL water that killed the aliens, it may have been just purified water. Who knows? Maybe salt water doesn't affect them, and because the earth is full of it, they were not afraid to take over. Also, remember that the aliens did not create an all-out war. They used stealth and such--sneak attacks. Would humans have time to go around pouring water on them? No, I highly doubt it. This could be disputed forever, but the fact is we don't know why, and we don't necessarily know how...It's as secret as the aliens, lol.

The reason this movie is GREAT...Well, I could go on forever, but I will sum it up; it's thought provoking, creepy as heck, and it's an intelligent way to execute a sci-fi movie. I could easily go into detail about it, but I'm too lazy  :-\

Anyway, this is my perspective on this film...A GREAT film that works on every level.

Look, the guy can have his opinion, but what he shouldn't be doing is coming on to a Shyamalan website and just making an overarching statement that he doesn't like Signs, without giving any reasons why.  I love Signs, superb movie, excellent acting, great story, and a great creepy factor.  I could go into more detail but I think I have posted stuff like this on other boards.

i think signs strikes home so well with people because it is a great 'what if' scenario.  and it's a glimpse into this injured, hurt family and their reaction to something even more unimaginable than what has already happened to them.

Yea, that's a good point.  'Cause everyone is afraid that if aliens were real, what would they do.  How come there are never any friendly aliens.  Shyamalan does a great job of making you fell what the characters feel.

the nature of these posts--friendly aliens, not friendly aliens--makes me think of that mission to mars movie and gary sinise.  those aliens must have been friendly.  he liked them so well that he stayed and let the water swallow him up.

and showing my age...i've not seen coccon or close encounters....

but i think generally 'aliens' are portrayed as bad or scary because they are the unknown and the unknown is usually supposed to be feared.

Close Encounters is possibly THE definitive Sci-Fi alien movie.  Cocoon was more about humanity and living life to the full.

Is everyone forgetting THE friendly alien though?  E.T.?  C'mon! :D

I did not enjoy it. There are some really cool moments, and some great visuals - but overall it's muddy storytelling IMO. It gets boring pretty fast, the goal of the hero is drilled into your head, and somethings are just really unclear and poorly told.

Spielberg has made some of the BEST alien movies--ever! Each one has it's own feel, and each one is riveting! I cannot believe people don't see this!  Spielberg is arguably the BEST director of all time--definitely, at THIS time! Shyamalan could learn a lot from his work.

Hey, I loved AI.  I suggest you see it. And I don't think they over-emphasized the goal of the hero. It was the search for his creator and the search for his own self-actualization. He wanted to become real more than anything, and to be loved by his father and mother as though he were their own. It was the search for God. It was the search for meaning in life - the purpose for his existence. And isnt that the goal for all of us? And shouldnt that be the center focus for all of our lives? If it isnt, then we might as well just lay down and die right here and now.

Aww man A.I is brilliant. One of my favourites. It's really interesting and thought provoking and really sad.

I can see where you're coming from with the boring thing though I can see how it can be.

And Signs is the best film ever because it contains the line "There?s a monster outside my room - can I have a glass of water?" which is possibly the best line ever written (in context of course).

Title: Re: I Hate Signs
Post by: Kable on September 14, 2008, 11:55:12 PM
I?d like a copy too!

I think, the problem with the signs' haters are that they where fooled by their own expectations. Like cloverfield, Signs was misunderstood. In cloverfield people expected a classic monster movie, with mr. Hero and his cientists friends. Signs looks a lot like an classic alien movie. Clover, in fact, was more about those people who was trying to survive than about the monster itself. And signs it?s so obviously about faith that I keep having nausea everytime someone complains about the aliens.

So, if you have expectations about any movie, shyamalan?s or from other director?s, try to keep it down. Don?t let it ruin your experience on the movietheater.

Signs is the best movie I ever saw....(and YES I saw Inception), its directing and writing was perfect, the actin...brilliant, Gibsins best performance, one of JNHs best scores (just three noites, but so different feelings, the thrilling part in the beginning, nervous in the middle, in the finale sometimes terrifying, then hopeful, you can hear how Graham starts to "see" when he looks at the baseball bat or the glasses of water...and in the end, "hand of fate part 2" it's just sooo beautiful, how can this....psychoishy three notes sound that wonderful, it's like you're listening to god...oh no, excuse me, the listening-to-god-moment is the track "asthma attack" if god would have a theme, it would be THIS!)   then ther suspense....great, the zoom on the blank wall which was discussed in the beginning of this discussion, is just great, or how Night refuses to show the aliens....WOW...then his "twist" even though his twist are now kind of annoying, this one is his best, because it's no real twist.....and at last, the most imprtant point....the faith, everytime somebody asks me about my religion and beliefs my first question back is "did you see the film "signs"?...it just describes my faith" and so it does, I never go to the church, but I belief so much in God that I think I'm beliebing more than the pope ;-)   and "Signs" is like my personal bible, Grahams speech about the "2 groups" is my prayer, like the "pater noster"....and the crop circle symbol on the covers and posters is my faiths symbol...I'm even gonna go to get it tattooed on my left shoulder ;-)

:) And as I like to say, any Shyamalan film has to be watched and re-watched to be appreciated.

I'm thinking about watching The Village right now actually...

*chokes on water* HAHAHA!!!
That would be an ironic twist, huh? Forum headline would read, "World's Number One 'Signs' Fan Killed by Water"

No, I'm more likely to be hanged than drowned...*spooky theme music* :D

It would be more ironic-and accurate- if it read "World's #1 Lady in the Water fan killed by Dasani" lol

perhaps more accurate...I dunno if I'd say it's more ironic...

There's a monster outside my window, can I have a mirror?

You know, it would have been a good idea for the Hess family to invest in a good sprinkler system.

I actually wrote it a while ago; it just didn't have "The Happening" in the original because it was from before that one came out. It was one of my first facebook statuses-stati--oro? lol
