Title: M. Night Shyamalan Referances
Post by: Dr Malcolm Crowe on December 03, 2005, 03:14:23 PM
Post M. Night Shyamalan referances you have heard in songs, or whatever really.

1.) Kanye West - "Through the Wire" :
"I must got a angel, Cause look how death missed my ass / Unbreakable, what you thought they'd call me Mr. Glass?"

2.) Timbaland and Magoo - "Drama" :
contains sample of Haley Joel OsmeNt saying "I wanna tell you my secret now" , "I see dead people"

I don't think that number 2 was ever released offically, probably due to sample clearences.

I was watching the dvd for THE OFFICE (USA) and in the deleted scenes section there is an exchange between Dwight and Jim.  Dwight mentions how he possibly can never get sick like in Unbreakable, Jim then goes on to mention that he may already be dead like in The Sixth Sense.

Shyamalan's name wasn't directly mentioned, but this is good enough to be a reference in my book. :D

I saw an episode of "King of the Hill" and one of the characters talks about today's media and says M. Night Shyamalan's name, BUT it ticked me off because he said the name wrong!  He pulled that stupid Shamalama crap!  It's not that hard to pronounce!

Today I watched "The Simpsons" and in the episode Homer's dad might not be his real dad because a mysterious letter arrives from a man initialed as "M".  Well "M" says that the real father is him, so Homer starts naming people.  And on the third guess he say, "What about M. Night Shyamalan?  That would be a great twist for his career because of his lousy movies!"  I was like WHAT?!?!?!  It doesn't matter to me because "The Simpsons" is still trying to stay on the air.  Their new competition is "Family Guy" which is WAY better!

 This is fun!

Okay I was watching Adult Swim on TV and someone mentioned M. Night Shyamalan on the advertisements for Adult Swim.  They said, "I just saw a commercial for M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, and I was like what a tweest!"

Honestly, I don't get it...

Scary movie 3...  plenty of shyamalan references..6th sense mostly..and then signs in scary movie 4 was a BIG part.

and this book:
The Village
by Bill Cassada
In 2004, a film entitled "The Village," written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, was released into theaters across the country.  The film contained a story line that explored the dynamics of a small sequestered agrarian village and the aggregate fears of its inhabitants.  Categorized as a political allegory, and viewed by critics as a psychological thriller dressed up as a folk tale, the story of "The Village" provides a strangely metaphorical connection to the modern day church and its attendant "church service," the character of which is curiously similar to what M. Night Shyamalan created in his story.

In his book "The Village," Bill compares today's institutional church to Shayamalan's Village. Is it possible that our churches, our revered and time-honored institutions, are nothing more than intellectually  fabricated temples, wrought from the mind of man, and like "The Village," hold us all in check by humanly-manufactured rules and rituals that came from the mind of man and not from God?

"...Following Shyamalan's story line to a "T," in churches today we have substituted yellow, the color of cowardice and the opposite of courage -- as our modern-day color-coded religious strategy.  Finding the real blood of Christ too powerful a substance to deal with, we substitute a man-made doctrine instead. We have replaced the life-giving red blood of Christ with the cowardly yellow color of seeker-sensitivity.  We have truly become gutless wonders who cannot face up to the truth that "the life is in the blood," and not in our intellectually conceived or humanly-fashioned golden calves..."

I just saw an M night reference on Oprah today. Rosario Dawson was talking about reading the script for "7 pounds" and said she was hoping it wouldnt have a twist ending like a shyamalan movie that leaves you disappointed.  :x

The guy next to me fell asleep and starting snoring. His girlfriend had to wake him up several times and say "baby, youre snoring"

He looked over at me once with a "help me get out of this freakin' theater now!" look.
