Post by: Dal on July 31, 2006, 05:53:13 AM
my favorite scenes have to be:

1.  the conversation between Merrill and Graham on the couch

2. scene when Graham come back home from Ray's to find the children and Merill sitting on the couch wearing alumimun foil hats.

3. final two scenes from where morgan asks whether someone saved him to the last scene where we realise that  graham has his faith in God back

5. in the basement Morgan having asthma attack while Graham holds his son talking him through the attack

what's everyone else's favorite scenes?

I love everything in the end.  It is absolutely amazing!

And that starts when they have dinner.  It is so symbolic!

The car ride right up to the part where they are on top of the car with the walkie talkie is so good!  I think the scene at the dinner table is my favorite though.  When Mel Gibson starts crying and just stuffing his face with food, It's just seems so real.  He's so upset and he's trying to just be normal, but at the same time he's just completely losing it. It's so sad.

Another set of scenes i love are the flash backs that graham has about his wife's accident. Along with this i love the deleted scene where Graham  and Colleen dance together.

My favorite scene has to be the one where he used one person's rage and anger to "defeat" an enemy by using anothers innocence!! :'(

Water is a very dominate part of the movies...

What, is he scared of fire??

I wonder if Fire will ever get a chance to "save" the day??

I would have to say either the scene with Graham and Merill on the couch, or when Merill is telling the kids on the TV screen to move.  But then again the whole end sequence is great, especially starting with the dinner scene.

I love this movie!  ;D

My favorite scenes are:

Graham's conversation with Merrill on the couch...Very intense, thought-provoking, and eerie.

The Brazilian video...A classic scene! This was Signs' "I see dead people" moment!

The leg at the cornfield...First *gasp* moment with an insane creepy factor!

The final scene where everything comes together, and Graham rushes out of the door with his kid...One of the most memorable scenes of all time--combined with the fantastic score, was absolutely hair-raising!

I could seriously go on forever...But these are my top in no order.

i'll go with a cheesy scene, but it's one i love:

merrill in the recruiters office with lionel when he acts like he's gonna punch him.  i just find that terribly amusing.  :D

No, that's a great scene, it sets up Merill as someone who won't back down, who's not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Yea, and hey, that's quite useful at the end, when the alien needs taking down.

i always thought it took merrill a second or two too long to understand what graham was saying, i've wanted to grab that bat off the wall at lightning speed and whack HIM with it a million times...

I think Merrill realised what Graham was saying but was afraid of what the alien would do to Morgan, and he was right, as soon as he picked up the bat the alien sprayed Morgan with his poison, and then had himself beat to death by Merrill.

Lol. I know what you mean. :)... In Merrill's defense though, didn't Graham repeat what his dying wife had said, "Swing away, Merrill." Or something like that? So it wasn't like he spelled it out: "Merrill, take the bat and attack the giant ugly thing in our living room."  Using the phrase, "Swing away," and so calmly, isn't exactly the way most people would talk under the circumstances, so probably Merrill's first, split-second reaction was, "Huh?"

That's true, I think the way it was filmed also made it appear slower.

That's true, I think the way it was filmed also made it appear slower.

I wonder why. To let the audience recognize the phrase from the dying wife and have the same epiphany Graham was having? (Or at least to recognize how Graham's mind was slowly but surely piecing things together?)

That's what I had always thought.  In each of Night's films at the end, as the main character pieces everything together, so do you.  I think it gives you much more of an attraction with the character, you feel what he feels.

"there's a monster outside my room, can i have a glass of water?"
wow..how unappropriate and yet so profoundly appropriate at the same time.
