Okay, I think I've recovered from the shock and my anger is under control.  I didn't kill myself either.  But, I feel sorry for anybody who was around me yesterday, I was not in the best mood.  Anyways, here's the problem for me.  I have never seen an R-rated movie that didn't have the bad stuff edited out and I never plan to.  Like H.E. Pennypacker, the fact that Night always kept his movies clean is one of the things I admired most about him.  It was part of the reason that he was my greatest hero.  It seems as though pretty much everybody is at least a little surprised about the R rating, so I have to ask myself, has Night abandoned his morals?  It's hard to think of Night becoming corrupt, but it can happen to anyone.  Hopefully the R rating will come from the movie just being more intense/scary.  The thought of Night making inappropriate material makes me very sad.

I will get to see the movie eventually because I have a clearplay DVD player(basically, you download filters to the DVD player and it edits out bad material from a normal DVD).  But, that means I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD.  I also won't be able to see it exactly as Night made it, that's sad.  Anyways, this doesn't change the fact that M. Night Shyamalan may be corrupt.  That's the hardest thing for me.

Legolas,
I'm not worried about the R rating, but then again, I don't have anything against R rated movies. I do think however, that you don't have to worry about there being overly offensive language or sexual content. Just because Night opted to make an R rated film, doesn't mean he has lost his morals. I'm confident that Night will keep his trademark spiritual messages, and deeper meanings. In that article, Night mentions how movies in like Pan's Labyrinth, the beauty is much more powerful because of the strong dark nature of many aspects of the film. I believe what he says is true. It is easier to appreciate the good when you've seen so much evil. Plus, graphic imagery isn't anything new to Night. I just think this film will have more, forcing the rating to be R.

My suggestion to you is; find someone whose opinion and judgement you trust to watch the movie before you do. Then if he or she believes you won't be offended, give a viewing yourself.

you guys know how that sci-fi doc thing came out before The Village, and that children's book and commercial came out before Lady in the Water? I wonder if he'll do anything like that for The Happening? That'd be pretty cool.  something to fill in the void while we wait. :)

in the US, that means only people over the age of 17 are admitted, unless accompanied by a legal guardian.

Wow!If this is the first R rated for him, that means Signs was not,of course! I can't imagine anything more scaring.I mean,he's definitely not the type that changes his way to make a movie,so I think The Happening won't be violent...but if it's R rated,I think of an atmosphere more eerie and terrifying than Signs.
Ok,how does Mel say in English when the aliens try to break through the door in the basement?..."I'm not ready"...Well,I'm not ready, too
