Your fave movies other than Night's?
« on: October 09, 2007, 05:47:19 PM »
Hey,

Would just like to know what movies other Night fans like?

My faves other than his include: Back to the Future, Good Will Hunting, Batman Begins, Indiana Jones (obvo)
Finding Nemo and Monsters inc, and...er... A.I

And less commercial films: Pan's Labrynth, A Scanner Darkly, Murder in the First, and White Squall.

I strongly reccomend Pan's Labynth and Batman Begins. Labrynth is quite similar to Lady in the Water imo and has some good themes and Batman Begins is probably the closest superhero movie to Unbreakable (More focused on script than action, some great lines.)

Obviously any Shyamalan film.  The Lord of the Rings, just about any superhero movie.  The Prestige.  Ladder 49 and Walk The Line.  Gladiator.  The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy.  That's all I can think of now.  Those are my top movies, with the Lord of the Rings at the top followed by all Shyamalan films.
I see the world Lucius Hunt, just not the way you see it.

Though most of Night's films happen to be in my top 25 favorites, some of my other top favorites include My Own Private Idaho, Mysterious Skin, The Chumscrubber, Batoru Rowaiaru [Battle Royale], Donnie Darko, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and so on. I love pretty much everything I've seen from directors Gus Van Sant, Robert Rodriguez, Danny Boyle, Alfonso Cuar?n, Alejandro Gonz?lez I??rritu, Joel Schumacher, and others, and actors Joaquin Phoenix, River Phoenix, Johnny Depp, Cillian Murphy, Gael Garc?a Bernal, Jake Gyllenhaal, Freddy Rodr?guez, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lukas Haas, Emile Hirsch, Heath Ledger, etc. It's a rather long list!

The LoTR collection is probably the most important of all my DVD's and I don't think any film will move me like Return of the King does (although the His Dark Materials trilogy stands a pretty good chance).

Gladiator is defo one of the greats as well.

Haven't seen The Prestige, must check it out, any film with Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan and Andy Serkis involved has to be a good thing!

The Fountain, The Prestige, Ratatouille, The Truman Show, Minority Report, The Last Samurai, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Matrix, The Terminal, Bridge to Terabithia, Pirates of the Carribean, Braveheart, War of the Worlds, The Last of the Mohicans, Master and Commander.

- It's alright to be afraid, David. Because this part won't be anything like a comic book. Real life doesn't fit into little boxes that were drawn for it. -

Yes the Return of the King is incredibly moving, excellent film, along with the other two.  The Prestige is very good, excellent acting, great cinematography, just an excellent film, very dark though, and the end is a little tricky.  I don't want to give anything away so I'll stop now.

Pay it Forward
The Virgin Suicides
Forrest Gump
Napolean Dynamite (Maybe the only movie I have watched more times than sixth sense)
Crash
Cold Mountain

Pay it forward and Forrest Gump are both superb.

I want to add 'Ratatouille' to my list. Just saw it and it's absolute magic. Not just as far as animations go either, it's just a great film.

No Gangster movies have been mentioned so far... I'm impressed  ;D

This is a hard one, because I love movies. My all-time favorite probably is North by Northwest. I also love Local Hero, Children of Men, Unbreakable, Bruce Almighty, The Queen, Notorious, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, Das Boot, Next, The Brave One, Airplane, and (because I have a young teen) Freaky Friday. And those are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head. It's easier for me to think of movies I don't like. ("Yellow Beard" remains the only movie I ever walked out of.)

I Love these films in no particular order... all of these films are my faves that I watch OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

-Lady in the Water
-The Village
-Hook
-Jurassic Park
-Clue
-Monster House
-Return to Oz
-The Goonies
-Indiana Jones Trilogy
-Back to the Future Trilogy
-(Old Star Wars Films)
-Any Star Trek film

I'm kind of a movie nut/whore. I can't stop watching these films. I literally watch them over and over again to annoyance. Sad I know. hahaa
