I'm coming to New York
« on: April 19, 2008, 10:49:21 PM »
The first weekend of May, the 1st through the 6th.

I'll be with my friends Courtney and Scott for the trip from Michigan.

Anyone from around there?

Nope, I'll be around Leiden, The Hague, Wassenaar and maybe Amsterdam or something.

Anyway, have fun! :)

I lived in White Plains, which is right outside New York, when I was a baby, then I've been up there about once a year since then.

You're from Michigan Specter?  So am I!  We could probably meet up sometime a lot closer to home!  ;)

Oh, gosh. My home state. I miss Michigan so much! I am so sick of Indiana and man-made 'lakes'! If I see one more new subdivision called "Lakes of ..." with a seaweed-colored pond near the entrance, I think I'll scream.  :D

Yeah, I'm from Grand Rapids.  :)  That's cool.  We could meet up.  It's only a matter of time.

So, Specter, is your name Van VandeVan?  :D  (Sorry, people. Just a little southwest Michigan 'insider' humor...)

Cool, we'll have to set that up sometime!  I'm from Lansing, so you're not far away at all.  My brother goes to film school there in GR, so periodically we head out that way anyway.  Thanks for running this site by the way!

That's awesome!  We'll have to meet up at some point, then.

I am not sure what that Van joke is, a few posts back.  LOL

Specter, are you *sure* you're from Grand Rapids? The same GR where every other name in the phone book starts with "Van"? ... Sorry. Maybe you're too young. It's a good stereotype, though. One of my best friends is from the GR area and was raised--yep, you guessed it!--Dutch reformed. :)

I know nearby Holland is more Dutch, (d'oh), but GR always has been known for its large Dutch population and heritage. Haven't you seen all of those windmill flower boxes in front yards, Specter?? They're totally SW Michigan! I love 'em, and I love GR, especially the Beltline Bar. Is it still there?

I believe the beltline bar is still here..  I was unaware of the Dutch thing and I've lived here for 27 years.  We always associate that with Holland.

The bigger question, though, is: if you've been to GR at all, have you visited Yesterdog?
