Doug said an agent wasn't necessary but I think if you're looking to get a part it's better to have someone professional negotiate for you. So good luck with your manager! ;) I'm contacting one near here soon as I build up my resume.

How do you find a manager or agent and how much does it cost?

Oops, sorry for the double question!

Decided to skip doing kung fu and continue training with my teacher in Tai Chi. Tricks of all trades master of none is not what I'm going for. Still doing acting classes though. Better change my resume where it says studying kung fu.

I found my manager through my old agent.

@Kuzon: Having a manager or agent shouldn't cost anything, except about $45 for the contract. other than that they get money out of your paycheck. They shouldn't take money from you. ;D

Don't get a manager until someone offers you a job.  Otherwise you have to give a percentage to your agent and then another percentage to the manager, whether they got you the job or not.  You
want to give away 25% of your income before you get out of the chute?

Audition, be your own agent.  If they want you, they will treat you right.  They'll give you a few days to have a contract lawyer look over everything.  Another resource is the
basic codified agreement with the Screen Actors Guild.  sag.org, that will tell you a lot.

IamKatara can you have a manager while you dont have an agent...

If I ever get a manager it will probably be my Mom or Best Friend...
Since the job of the manager is to take care of you already...
and manages your money(dont they? ???)...
I would like a manager i can probably trust already...

I think they are two different names for the same thing...I could be wrong though. You could actually get and agent and if you do good in the business hire another agent to help manage money. I think. :P

nah.  a manager works with your agent. I guess they do similar jobs, but while you don't have too much contact with your agent except for audition info, you talk to your manager constantly.
