Why did David not find drugs on Night?
« on: October 01, 2008, 10:54:14 PM »
Hey, David has this flash during a game that a guy in the bathroom (M. Night) picks up some drugs from a trash can. Yet when he searches him, no drugs. What gives?

If you look at the flash scene, you see that the drug dealer is picking up the drugs. Since David sees both flashbacks (Elijah's Flashbacks in the end) as Flashforwards (The orange man), this could be a flashforward. So the drug dealer doesn't have the drugs yet. If David would have followed him into the bathroom, he probably would have caught him with drugs.

See, I had a completely different take on that.  M. Night's character has already dumped the drugs, that why David didn't find them on him.  Also, I don't think he's capable of having flashforward, with the Orange Man, that had all happened in the morning.  1. There's light coming through the door which looks like daylight.  2. He never had enough time to go through the house, kill the father, tie up the girls, and abuse the wife.  3. There's mail lying on the floor, why would they just leave mail on the floor unless the Orange Man came in the morning, did all that, went to work, and then came back.

Read the early drafts of Unbreakable

INT. STADIUM - AFTERNOON

David lets the waves of people move by him in the tunnel.

A MAN WITH GRAY EYES and wearing a dark blue sweat shirt carries a cardboard tray
of nachos and drinks. He brushes David's arm as he passes.

FLASH CUT: THE IMAGE OF THE GREY EYED MAN WEARING A BLOOD SPLATTERED T-SHIRT IN
A MEN'S BATHROOM. HE'S VIOLENTLY KICKING ANOTHER MAN CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR OF A
TOILET STALL.

HE STOPS KICKING. HE GLARES DOWN WITH POWERFUL GRAY EYES.

             SWEAT SHIRT MAN(whispers)
      This is my house, @#$%&.
      These are my customers.

SLAM CUT BACK TO PRESENT:

The gray eyes man in the blue sweat shirt pauses with nachos in hand at the top
of the stairs to locate his seats. Beat.

David walks the five feet between them and taps him on the shoulder. People
continue to stream by as the man turns to face David. The man's GRAY EYES go from
David's face to the security emblem on his shirt. The man's face becomes still.

             GRAY EYED MAN
      Yeah?

David stares hard at the man in front of him.

             DAVID
      We've had some problems with
      drug selling in this
      stadium.
         (beat)
Would you mind if I checked
      the pockets of your
      sweatshirt?

The gray eyed man stands eerily still with his nachos and drinks. The two men
just stare at each other, evaluating the situation. People move in both
directions around them, unaware.

The gray eyes man holds his tray of food to the side and raises his arms slowly.

David steps forward and reaches into his pockets. Beat. David pulls his hands out
from the pockets. They're empty.

The gray eyes man brings his arms down. Beat.

The walkie on David's hip COMES TO LIFE. David reaches down and pulls it off his
belt without removing his eyes from the man in front of him. David brings the
walkie to his mouth.

             DAVID(into walkie)
      Yeah?

             WALKIE(o.s.)
There's a message for you at
      the office. Your kid was
      hurt.

David's face changes.

             DAVID(into walkie)
      When?

             WALKIE(o.s.)
Just now. They want you to
      come down to his school.

David lowers the walkie from his face. The gray eyed man has a slight smile on.
Beat.

             GRAY EYED MAN
Why don't you go take care
      of your business?

The gray eyed man takes a bite of a nacho as he stares at David.

             GRAY EYED MAN
      And dude, no one carries
      their merchandise on them
      any more. They got
      messengers for that #@!*
      now.
         (beat)
      That's what they tell me.

The gray eyed man in the blue sweat shirt turns and starts down the stairs to his
seat. He raises his fist in the air as someone scores a touchdown on the field.

Yeah, but the script is different from the final product, were trying to disect the film itself.

David never gets a flash of someone doing their crime the same day. (take your pick of any flash, they are all wearing different clothes, etc) So the fact that he doesnt catch the drug dealer/buyer (forget which) with the drugs is because he's getting a flash from a different day. And I doubt he would get any flashes of anything happening in the future. (exception: david gets a "feeling" the camo guy has a gun on him, but doesnt actually flash it)
See the villain's larger eyes insinuating a just-off-normal perspective on how they see the world? I see signs Lucius Hunt; just not as you see dead people. I am so very happy we saw..each other, and no I will not tell you what color love is. Stop asking.

Are you sure about that, when's the first time a "flash" occurs?

i dunno..but i know that at least all the ones i can think of were of things in the past: the lady who stole jewelry, the lady who hits her kids, the orange suit man, elijah, the drug dealer..am i missing anyone? there might have been another random man..

btw, i know his is slightly off-topic, but i just realized something. It seems like David gets one of his feelings when Elijah offers him water at their meeting. Now..everyone notices that, but It's probable that Elijah had some sort of poison or something in the water as sort of a test for David to see how superhuman he is. The INTERESTING part of it though, is the fact that it's in WATER. David might have some sort of phobia for water in general (seeing as how it is his weakness) but it's sort of a nice little easter egg. and a side question: might the water have rendered David's powers ineffective against the poison?

That's interesting, the only thing I had thought about that scene was that David didn't want to be beholden to Elijah for anything, and he was also a little worried about this crazy nut who was positing all these theories.

David sees the past too. If you look clearly in the vision. The man wears a different coat, in the present he wears another one. So that's just a crime he did in the past. The man was just lucky :D

Actually, he ONLY flashes the past as far as we can tell. But yeah, the drug scene is one that seemed like NIght was dropping off the drugs, not picking them up.

Ahh, I understand, Dunn still isn't sure what he can see, only the past, and he sees Night dropping off the drugs, he's just not sure if Night has them on him.
