The Ending.
« on: September 08, 2006, 08:47:58 AM »
I was just thinking about this film (as I do most of the day haha) and was admiring how well the ending was structured.  I've heard a few complaints that it ends too abruptly, but I think the final shot we see of Cleveland standing there is such a bitter sweet moment.  Sure its a happy ending, but you cant help but feel so darn sorry for the guy even though his life has changed for the better.

In terms of cinematography, the whole final sequence is AMAZING.  When the great Eatlon swoops down, I was expecting a LOTR type shot of it picking Story up...yet we have that fantastic underwater shot as its wings spread around her.  Such a beautiful composition, followed by that sweeping shot as it flys over Philidelphia...Argh! I love it!  :D

I know this is such a 'gushy' post but I thought I'd share my love! haha.

Interesting tidbit here though, according to The Man Who Heard Voices, that was not the original ending.  M Night apparently changed it before filming, and it had something to do with a sign on his door or something...

Just thought i'd throw that out there, I wonder what it was.

Really? Hmmmm, thats interesting. Yeah, I guess we'll never know the reasons for the change...just like the mysterious other ending for the Village. Well I've read the apparent original ending to the Village but I dont know if it was ever shot.

Thanks for sharing and LADY IN THE WATER ending is one of the best endings I have seen in my entire life... no movie ended in that kind of style and the one which has PAIN and happiness and magical like the LADY ending.

I love that eagle flying over the city and through the dark clouds you see the city down there.

The ending of LITW was simply amazing. I agree with you. But could you tell me what was the original ending for The Village? I am eager to know.

Take notice of the word "Joined" to the left of the date.  It was posted on Sept. 8, 2006.  You had me for a second there.  I was like "Holy cow!  Spikeshinizle has powers of foresight!"

I was listening to this show on coast to coast last night and this guy was talking about thunderbirds and I couldn't help but think that maybe the Great Eatlon could be one of them....?

any thoughts?

lol thunderbird? no idea.

I love the ending too. It's so clever and simple and beautiful, and anything more would be too much-we know everyone is going to move on and become what they're destined to be now. They've been changed, we don't need to see any more.

The Ending of Lady wasn't an ending...

It was a new beginning... The personal reflection was the hint to the real ending which was Mn's little.."Where are you" speach!! :o

It's all symbolism!!

Yup, a never ending cycle of beings and endings...

What could be better?? ;)

The lil speech he gave while sitting in the bathroom, why didn't he show up, I wrote it and nothing happened... How ever he said it, I haven't seen but passing glimpses of it, something always happens when I try to watch M's movies...

But basically he should have put self-doubt in the spot!! The way to book is written!!

What about the Raven in it?? The Crow!!!  I'm the crow... Hawk...Hawk....

The best ending to a film I have ever seen, superb, quiet, beautiful, sad, hopeful.  Just amazing.
I see the world Lucius Hunt, just not the way you see it.
