Shyamalan forms new production/financing partnership with MRC Posted to category: M. Night Shyamalan on 27 Jul 2008 by Dr Malcom Crowe
M. Night Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital recently formed the Night Chronicles, a new production/financing partnership planned to release one film per year for three years. Variety reports:
Shyamalan will produce but not direct, marking the first time he will produce a film he didn't write and helm. Shyamalan will create the stories and ideas for the films and pick the writers and directors; MRC will finance.
Shyamalan and MRC will co-own the copyrights and retain artistic control.
Two factors in particular attracted MRC to the filmmaker: Shyamalan typically generates more movie ideas than he can execute, since he writes, directs, produces and often acts in the films he makes. And he has a track record of bringing his films in on budget.

Happening on Blu-ray to feature Shyamalan "BonusView" Posted to category: The Happening on 25 Jul 2008 by Specter
Blu-ray.com has learned early details of the Blu-ray Disc for "The Happening" which will feature a quasi-commentary track by Shyamalan. Is this the first in a new trend for Shyamalan? Let's hope to see more for "The Last Airbender."
In an interview with Agent DVD magazine, director M. Night Shyamalan revealed that he has recorded a BonusView commentary track for the upcoming Fox Home Entertainment Blu-ray release of his film 'The Happening'. He also mentioned that there is no planned director's cut of the film.
Commenting on the BonusView feature, he said, "It reminded me of how interesting and fun the process can be when you're making a fun, scary movie. You laugh the whole time you watch the Blu-ray interview with me because you're watching all these gruesome things going on behind me, and I'm saying, 'Well, when we made this and that...' It was fun watching it and reminded me of being a kid again."
No other information was revealed about this release at this time.

Disney Eyes 'Sixth Sense' Blu-ray for September Posted to category: The Sixth Sense on 03 Jul 2008 by Specter
Neil Lumbard wrote to inform us that the Sixth Sense has a targeted September release date for Blu-ray Disc.
Given the early nature of the announcement, there are no tech specs
or extras detailed as of yet. However, given an earlier Vista Series
DVD release of the film, hopes are high that some (if not all) of the
same features found on that two-disc version will make their way to
Blu-ray. We'll keep you posted.
Suggested retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $34.95.
