The folks at Coventry Telegraph just published an lengthy guide to M.Night Shyamlan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER – adapted from the Nickelodeon animated series – four nations represent the elements of air, water, earth and fire.

The Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others and a century passes with no end in sight to the destruction.

The Last Airbender Interviews – M. Night Shyamalan, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone and Dev Patel talk about bringing the cartoon to the big screen with Reelz Channel.

Despite the numerous negative comments and reviews M.Night Shyamalan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER narrowed the gap between Monday’s No.1 and No.2 movie at the North American box office.

This Shyamalan’s actioner actually grossed $12.65m (vs. $13.54m for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), according to Box Office Mojo.

While Eclipse, starring the popular combo Robert Pattinson-Kristen Stewart-Taylor Lautner, has been performing a little below expectations, The Last Airbender, has been performing way above expectations. Shyamalan’s actioner went up an estimated 34.7% on Monday (vs. Eclipse‘s 18.4% decrease).

One more drastic Eclipse attendance drop The Last Airbender can reach the top position at the North American box office.  To date, The Last Airbender has collected $70.5m about $20 million more than many had predicted. And in order for Paramount to recover its $150m production costs alone not including the $130m spent on marketing, The Last Airbender would have to earn approximately $270-$300m domestically, as studios only get around 50-55% of a movie’s box-office gross.

According to current box office numbers The Last Airbender doesn’t seem at all likely will get that far, but that’s where the overseas market should come to the rescue.

The Last Airbender will open internationally just within few weeks.

You may not know her name, but 15-year-old actress Nicola Peltz – who stars in the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan fantasy The Last Airbender in the role of Katara – could be changing that very soon. Here’s why, according to People.com:

M. Night gives her a rave review.
“I told the studio I didn’t want to make this movie without her,” Shyamalan tells PEOPLE. “I said that only once before in my career, and that was when I met Haley [Joel Osment] in the Sixth Sense auditions.” They’re buds off-camera, too: He came to Peltz’s 15th birthday party with his daughters.

Shyamalan finds cast for The Last Airbender

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 by Dr Malcolm Crowe

It looks as if director M. Night Shyamalan has found his cast for The Last Airbender. The would-be cast is mostly filled with unknowns and minor stars, all of which Shyamalan aims to make household names when The Last Airbender opens in July of 2010.

“After an open casting call in Texas, Shyamalan discovered karate star Noah Ringer and offered him the part of Airbender’s 12-year old hero, Aang, an Avatar with superpowers who must stop the Fire Nation from destroying the world. Twilight’s Jackson Rathbone has been asked to play Aang’s pal Sokka, while Nicola Peltz (Deck the Halls) will star as his sister Katara. Genial singer Jesse McCartney, meanwhile, is negotiating to play against type in the role of the Fire Nation’s evil prince Zuko.”
