Daniel Stamm to direct Twelve Strangers?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 by Rohan

The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm might be directing the next movie in The Night Chronicles series, Twelve Strangers, according to HeyUGuys.

The site was at a roundtable interview session with Daniel Stamm, where he revealed some information that falls in line with the format for The Night Chronicles series, where M. Night Shyamalan produces and comes up with an original premise for other writers and directors to take and make the film from. Here’s what he had to say:

“My next project is a supernatural thriller and it’s not going to be shot in documentary style…One of my favorite filmmakers in the world, who’s a legend, is producing it…an idea of his that another writer is writing and I’m going to direct. It has a twist in the ending, without giving away who it is.”

We reported back in June that Buried screenwriter Chris Sparling had been hired to write Twelve Strangers. The story revolves around twelve jurors who are deliberating a case that involves supernatural elements. The first movie in The Night Chronicles series, Devil, opens on September 17.

M. Night Shyamalan’s name was brought up at the roundtable session, along with other filmmakers like Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan and David Lynch, when the journalists were asked to guess which filmmaker he would be working with. While Daniel Stamm did say that one of those guesses was correct, he would not confirm which one it was.

We will keep you guys updated with more news regarding  TWELVE STRANGERS.  Twelve Strangers comes to theatres 2012.

More Details on Night’s New Script & 2nd Night Chronicles Film

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 by Dr Malcolm Crowe

A couple of days ago word hit the streets that M. Night Shyamalan has been shopping a new project around Hollywood that’s rumored to have Bruce Willis, Bradley Cooper, and Gwyneth Paltrow loosely attached. Deadline Hollywood is reporting today that the script supposedly involves Bradley Cooper as father on a desperate search for his missing child. Rumored to be along the lines of the popular 2008 film Taken, this projects supposedly adds supernatural element which aids Cooper’s character in his search. Deadline reports that Universal is currently showing the most interest this project, but nothing is close to final.

Speaking of Universal, they’re set up to release the first film in the Night Chronicles series, Devil, on February 11, 2011. Deadline Hollywood is now reporting that the second film in the series will be Twelve Strangers, a thriller that involves a jury deliberating a case involving the supernatural. Shyamalan has tapped writer Chris Sparling to write the script. Sparling most recently wrote Buried, the upcoming thriller starring Ryan Reynolds that was recently snatched up after a very positive outing at Sundance.

[Paul Martin's Note: Twelve Strangers is another great idea for a film.  I have a feeling that it's going to be a fun movie.  Sounds kind of similar to the courtroom scene in Ghostbusters II, but not entirely, as that one was decided by a judge, and this is focused on the jury.]

“Devil” Relocates to Toronto

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 by Dr Malcolm Crowe

M. Night Shyamalan is renowned for shooting his films in (and around) the Philadelphia area. Since Wide Awake, the filmmaker has filmed each of his movies around the city of brotherly love — bringing in an estimated $375 million to the local economy. For his latest project, a film titled Devil, this will all change. The financiers of the project (which is being produced by Shyamalan) could no longer wait for legislators to approve the film tax credits and decided to move the production to Toronto, Canada. Carrie Rickey of Philly.com reports:

“Last week, at the 11th hour, Devil withdrew its application for credits because of uncertainty with respect to whether film tax credits would be in the state budget,” Jane Saul, director of the Pennsylvania Film Office, said yesterday. “This is an obvious sign that without the film tax credit in place, we lose film business, and in turn, jobs.”

Devil is being developed under Shyamalan’s Night Chronicles production company with Media Rights Capital. The film is a supernatural thriller to be directed by siblings John and Drew Dowdle. The script will be written by Brian Nelson and based on an original idea from Shyamalan. Thanks to Sri HK in the forums for the tip!

Friday, October 24th, 2008 by Dr Malcolm Crowe

A couple months ago we announced that M. Night Shyamalan would be producing a series of thrillers over the next three years. The series, titled Night Chronicles, is a joint-venture between M. Night Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital. The stories will be based off Night’s own original ideas, but he will leave the writing and directing up to others. Although no plot details have been released, last weekend it was announced that John and Drew Dowdle (Quarantine) have been called upon to write and direct the first of the three films. Quarantine is currently in theaters.
