The Legend of Korra – The sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender

It’s long been known that the guys behind Avatar: The Last Airbender were working on a sequel to the series, one that is set in the same world but tells a different story.

The shroud of secrecy has been lifted, and that sequel has been announced with the working title: The Legend of Korra.

Nickelodeon executive Brown Johnson says the new series will focus on a teenage girl avatar named Korra. Brown describes her as hotheaded, independent and “ready to take on the world.”

Here’s a summary from the Wall Street Journal:

“The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra.”

Korra’s quest eventually leads her to Republic City – the epicenter of the world of “Avatar.” A metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology, the city is inhabited by people from all nations. Korra finds that Republic City suffers from rampant crime and is also dealing with an anti-bender revolt. Korra is tutored by Aang’s son, Tenzin, is the ways of airbending.

The series is set to premiere sometime in 2011!

  1. nice. i was hoping for more avatar. its nice that they expand the universe by adding new hero and all new characters, I do wish that there are some old character cameos… Aang is out of the count but not all are dead 😀

  2. Interesting. I don’t know though…I’m very attached to Aang and Co. It might do a number on me watching this. I’ll probably check it out anyway.

  3. Anyone else notice that Korra, from the description given and from the picture, looks and sounds almost exactly like Katara? Well i do.. im interested in watching this though, cant wait for it to come out

  4. OMG this soooooooooo AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! but Aang cant be dead he was just 12 in 70 years he can b dead or be an old man. but wat ever dont matter OMG am so excited!

    • I don’t mean to burst your bubble about Aang, but in the mythology of the show, the Avatar is reincarnated, so for Korra to exist, Aang must be dead.

  5. OMG!!!!!! I was hoping that they would make a new avatar, i hope its as good as the series was. I wanna see Aang’s son. I can’t wait for the new series to come out!

  6. Korra? I don’t know. What if Aang and Katara are adults and the fire nation came back for revenge. That would be cool!

  7. They’ve got to make the sequel to M. Night’s “Avatar, the Last Airbender” — movie was too good to just let it die out like that… Finish what you started people, don’t leave your fans hanging…

  8. I have been looking, checking all websites pretaining to the sequel and my one goal is to see this the first week it comes out. Too bad; Aang, Katara, Sukko, Zuko
and his uncle can’t come back for the beginning of the new movie. That would be
    rightous!!
