"Avatar", from famed director James Cameron, has been working on his 3-D sci-fi film Avatar for 12 years. With a $300 million budget and a fantastic storyline, this film seems that it'll be amazing.

Yes. At first I didn't really have any strong feelings about this project. But the closer it gets, the more excited I am!

Avatar hearts IMAX

When the man behind the highest grossing movie of all time says that his next film will change the way movies are watched and made, people tend to stand up and listen. To say that the expectations for James Cameron's sci-fi epic AVATAR are huge is a gross understatement. If the film doesn't gross like six trillion it's opening weekend it will be considered a flop. According to The New York Times, IMAX is considering giving AVATAR an 11-week (almost 3 months) run to ?satisfy demand? for Cameron?s first feature film since TITANIC. Avatar hits theaters on December 18th 2009, and the next film set to hit the giant screen is Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Of course nothing is set in stone yet, but if AVATAR did indeed run for 11 weeks on an IMAX screen it would mark the longest such run for a major Hollywood film. James Cameron obviously has something the rest of us dont and it's called clout.

---------------

the guy on time magazine talked about his experience when he saw a little preview of avatar. he said "i could'nt tell what was real or what was fake." and michelle rodriguez said in her FF4 interview that it's like "seeing films being tranferred from black and white to color for the first time."

I had to view this twice, the ending is really good. I still can't do the judgement if it's the official trailer. I have a reason, James Cameron started this movie secretly, not one on the set picture ever released until few months back and being that carefull I don't think the studio will release the trailer. Still don't know as the ending looks realistic to the movie, but again anyone these days can make anything.

I found the link to the official website of the movie - http://www.avatarmovie.com  for now it takes you straight to 20th Century fox website.

James Cameron fans have been patiently waiting to see something from his upcoming "Avatar." And since 20th Century Fox won't release a single photo from the movie, we'll have to keep making news out of blurry/cryptic images that leak online.

Today, we have one of those images [via MarketSaw]. It's a shot of an enormous supersuit that human soldiers will wear on the alien planet Pandora, where they will destroy the Na'vi.

And regarding the trailer appearing in front of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," Fox recently revealed that that's not going to happen. "Avatar" is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18th.

I have to admit this. I have this weird feeling about Cameron's Avatar. They're saying its 3D/CGI and all. As far as technology is concerned it gets old every day and by the time we have other great movies in few years Cameron's Avatar might look like a cartoon or playstation 1 graphics.

This is one of those movies that I have to wait and see... then I will make my decision to watch it and cherish it.

Well, seeing is how James Cameron has NEVER let me down (I don't care what anyone says, you all LOVED Titanic when it came out, and it's still amazing!!! ;) ), the only thing that worries me is that this is the first thing he's directed since 1997, which could either mean he's rusty and it's gonna suck balls, or, with how much hype this is getting about being "the most revolutionary thing since the invention of celluloid," could be a brand new James Cameron. we might see things in this film we never thought possible....it will be like being in the 80's again or something where movies still showed us things we never saw before haha.

Read the article and see that little blue background picture. I am losing my hopes. I think I am not going to be waiting for this movie at all. I am getting the point here. Cameron is trying to make 3D the next big thing and make a name for himself. It's clear we have not seen any movies from Cameron since TITANIC. Okay, it was good. Earned lots of cash and its still the reigning champ. I think Cameron could come with a different idea.

I think he should sit and watch NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN or THERE WILL BE BLOOD to learn true cinema. He should learn that everything isn't about the box office money.

I respect him but he just pissing me off. I am getting frustrated with every article released in the media about AVATAR.

Sorry guys, I have to disagree. I think this will be mind-blowing. I heard that this wasn't a movie where they didn't shove the 3-D down your throat, and it only uses it when necessary. Someone saw a 24 minute preview and said he was truly blown-away. Very cool concept too.

What exactly happened to AVATAR at Comin Con - no footage and pictures released. What is going on with this movie. People are talking about it like there is Alien invasion going on. It saddens me that it is 3D. I think Cameron is taking a very huge risk. Huge risk.

I read an article stated that even though AVATAR earns $400/500M in box office it will not be considered a hit for studios.

I am apprehensive even though I am not the director.

Comic Con is this week. He will be showing footage. And Avatar will surely make over $400m worldwide. Possibly double. Hell, Titanic made 1.8 billion. This can make $600m.

And I don't know why you're so scared of the 3D. He's using never used before technology.

My Review For [/i]Avatar[/i]

Ah, at last the wait is over for "Avatar". And let me tell you right now, it was certainly worth it.

"Avatar" opens up with a compelling narrative by Jake Sully, and soon we are introduced to the lustrous and amazing world of Pandora. It is there that we come upon the concept of "Avatars", which, as probably all of you know, is a clone of the Na'Vi aliens that's controlled by the mind of a human. Jake is up for it all, and so we begin the adventure. Jake wakes in his Avatar once entering his machine. It is then that he goes along with other humans as they try to get close in-contact with the natives of Pandora. Jake encounters stunning creatures, and journeys though the spectacular jungles and sites of the alien world. He meets Neytiri, whom later in the film, he falls in love with. Every moment of Avatar is astounding and terrific.

Let me just say right now that the skeptics of this movie's visual effects are dead wrong. Throughout the movie, you'll be amazed at the visual wonder and achievement James Cameron brought to the Na'Vi. You clearly see on their beautiful sapphire faces every skin particle, vein, and facial expression on the alien creatures. This truly is revolutionary technology that James Cameron and the other visual artists brought to cinema.

Imagine my excitement when my beheld the magnificent life on Pandora. The world is so incredibly colorful and vivid, it really blew me away. The pure imagination in this movie is something that every moviegoer should greatly appreciate. Simply put, the world of Pandora-the plant life, creatures, water, everything-is stunningly beautiful.

The emotional range in "Avatar" is also fantastic. The actors bring to the table a wonderful portrayal of their characters. Particularly in the end of the movie, the acting is terrific. Like you probably read in other reviews, you really will care for the characters. Also, I think what people have been saying about Sam Worthington is correct: He's a rising super-star. With this and "Clash of the Titans" coming up, you would expect him to be huge in Hollywood.

The action and adventure are also tremendously exciting and awesome. Whether it's flying on their dragon-like companions, falling through a jungle, or running away from epic explosions, "Avatar" delivers a stunning action/adventure aspect to this film. I second viewing in 3-D is what I intend to do in the future, and I can imagine what will be yet another incredible experience with "Avatar".

If there's any kind of complaint with "Avatar", it's the music. In all honesty, there's nothing quite intriguing in this area. While I enjoyed most of the music based on the Na'Vi culture, everything seemed somewhat flat compared to other movie soundtracks. However, there's enough to keep the story and events exciting.

Years from now, "Avatar" will be looked upon as one of those epic, spectacular films that made a mark on cinematic history. It's among films like The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter-the movies that are ones to be hugely anticipated as you wait for the sequel. What it all comes down to is that "Avatar" is a magnificent film.

Finally I saw AVATAR and yes I did watched in IMAX. I went their and then thought you know what I want this in IMAX and I made the right decision. I really don't know what to say and where to start. I wanted James cameron to prove me wrong and he did prove me wrong. I will start with Sam Worthington - a very nice performance and stayed true to his character. I am impressed.

I am impressed 110% guys. I don't know what to say. The colors, Pandora, the people, the alians, the beauty of Neytiri, horses, dragons, to jelly flies, to leaves, grasses, rocks, mountains, water falls, aircrafts, war, music, emotion everything is there in details. Very carefully made. And speaking of emotion, I read an review the other day that it is not emotional. It is a very emotional movie.

This must be experienced in IMAX. Not on DVD. Please watch it on the big screen. In a way it isn't a movie, but a experience. I have always heard from people that they bought their tickets when STAR WARS came out. Now I can tell my kids in future that I bought my ticket for AVATAR.

My hats off to JAMES CAMERON.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't particularly care for Avatar a tremendous lot. Don't get me wrong. It's a gigantic accomplishment when it comes to special effects. But I thought it was a really good movie, but could've been a truly great one. The only thing that was wrong with it in my opinion was the character development. If Cameron had devoted twenty or thirty more minutes of character development in the first half then this would've been an instant classic. That's what worked about Titanic I think. Build the characters up before all the hell breaks loose. But with Avatar, there was hardly any backstory or anything on anyone. Where were those quiet scenes where we really see the characters connecting?

Really good, but not great.

Fan-effin-tastic movie!! Saw this in IMAX 3D last night and was absolutely stunned. This is the work of a brilliant and brave filmmaker.

See this movie ASAP!!! IN 3D!!!!!! You will not be disappointed.

I also saw this in IMAX 3D.

It was a 3 hour train journey to the theater, 5 hours back by car.

For me, the trip was well worth it.

I can't comment on how much better the film was in IMAX 3D compared to normal 3D (or 2D for that matter) but it was soooo much more convincing than when I watched the trailers on my computer screen. (For anyone who managed to catch the "Thanator Chase" scene online - it looks infinitly better in imax.)

It was something I had never seen before and I was completely captivated by it. At times, despite my earlier skepticism, I did think it looked photo-realistic - the way the Na'vi move is incredible.

Maybe it's 'cos I'd never seen anything in IMAX before, but I was entranced, and it has lingered with me, and I'm not sure if I'm ever gonna' have as good a time at the cinema again.

However, let's come back down to Earth for a second. When I left the cinema my brother asked me what I'd give it out of 10.

I hit him with a 7. And he's hurt.

When I watch Avatar again on DVD, I fear it will only come across as a 'good' movie, not a 'great' movie.

Without the CGI, that film is nothing. That may be unfair, good acting good score good directing ect.

What I mean is that the story the plot the scipt the dialogue, these are not things I'm desperate to revisit.

And on DVD, in my house, without the 3D, without the great visuals, without the great sound, it's going to become apparent how thin Avatar is.

This is a cliched story, with cliched characters and cliched dialogue. I'm not saying it should have been done differently . This film has ASTOUNDED me.

But so did Star Wars Attack of the Clones (que laughter). No goosebumps = no good in the long term.

Go see Avatar. It's awesome. Do not wait to see it on DVD it's just not gonna' have the same affect.

P.S. I do think the end battle should have been longer. Yeah I know the film was long (long films don't really bother me, especially not in this I didn't want it to end!) but they probably could have cut down one of the flying bits (her solo flight or his solo flight) and lengthened the end battle. Maybe it just went so fast 'cos it was so good but what was there was SWEEEEET I just wanted more.

ok ill have to go see it in imax 3d (since there is a theater maybe 45 min from me), and by the way I can see clearly how thin the movie is. It seriously looks and sounds like a kids' movie, and I hope I am pleasantly suprised.

Yeah in a way you can say that its a kid movie, but when you watch the whole movie and when it ends you will not feel that you just watched a kid movie. I like the hidden messages in the movie. Pretty good. Battle in the end is masterfully done. Trust me, I felt the same way and before it started I was thinking I am sitting and going to watch a kid movie...

amazing movie
saw it is just 3D because the time for imax 3D wasn't convenient (3 hour waitin the mall)

might go see it in imax 3D sometime...
hopefully when there are less crowds - i didn't like sitting in the second row
(this is the first time i see a LINE for the next showing time outside the theater - then again i've usually saw movies right before they stopped showing  ;D)

kids movie or not - can't voice my opinion here without rambling on so
all iin all, i liked the idea even though, definitly true, that the beginning wasn't entirely convincing

but obviously, worth seeing!!!!!  ;D

Not a spoiler. I was thinking what if Neytiri is one of us, like Jake Sully she decided long time ago to live in Pandora or may be the whole Pandora natives was once from planet earth and they long time ago decided to live in Pandora after Pandora's discovery.

Yeah,it's possible.I heard Cameron would like to make other two movies...maybe one of them could be a prequel to explain what happened exactly on Earth,a point not very clear in the movie.
Title: Re: Avatar

Title: Re: Avatar
Post by: Rohan on February 12, 2010, 08:31:34 PM
I rather see the sequels. Not interested in any prequel and what happened on earth is what we see today, so there is no need for JC to write a prequel we already know what's happening to the earth and in the earth.

I don't think Fox has officially CONFIRMED the November release date, but I know that's what Cameron was wanting to do.

And yeah, I think it's pretty cheap of them to quickly rush it out just to keep the momentum going, but hey, that's why they have millions and I work on pools to barely get by.
