Title: Shutter Island:Whatever happend to patient 67?
Post by: Rohan on April 09, 2009, 02:31:37 PM
This is one of the other movies that I have been waiting for a while. It is going to be released later this year and its directed by none other than Martin Scorsese. And stars "Leonardo Dicaprio" and "Mark Ruffalo" in the lead.

The film/drama is set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.

I was going to buy the novel written by DENNIS LEHANE and they have the old copies of the novel. I am waiting for the movie tie-in edition.

Release date is October 2 of 2009. And please don not post spoilers here if someone already read book.

I am not saying this is 100% set in stone, but I have read somewhere online few months ago that the trailer will be released on July 09 before PUBLIC ENEMIES.

One of the ropeofsilicon users scanned this from Cahiers du Cin?ma?s January 2009 edition (Thanks to him) with a diary written by Argentinean filmmaker Celine Murga based on her experiences on the set of Martin Scorsese?s Shutter Island and today he returns with a piece of teaser art from the film scanned out of the Berliner Zeitung newspaper as part of a story about TMG/Concorde, the film?s distributor.

Since it is a scan you can slightly see some of the words bleeding through on the lighter areas but for the most part it is a top quality image, but I can?t help get the feeling it is still an early piece of artwork since the font used to write ?Whatever happened to patient 67?? on the wall is just a generic font and isn?t exactly up to final art quality.

I was reading online somewhere someone watched the early screening. This is way different than any other Martin.S movies. No f words and other words. Plain and simple drama and good cinematography. There was some thing about the music also mention. Locations are good too.

I dunno. I don't really get all that excited about previews..If i wanna see the movie, then I'll see the movie. Too many previews will just take away from the enjoyment of the real thing.

Just saw this last night. While the second half of the story didn't quite knock me out the way the first half did, it was still very enjoyable. While the plot wasn't just air-tight, Scorsese's direction totally was. That man knows how to draw suspense in broad daylight. He made the movie as if Hitchcock set up the camera and Kubrick selected the music. Really neat.

Yup. I agree wholeheartedly.

Not Scorsese's best, but still very enjoyable imo. It's quite tense. And Leo is superb in it.

Ok, I saw this movie like a month ago but havent had a chance to review it. I thought it was entertaining and mentally engaging. There were enough subtle details that I knew most of the audience probably missed, that it made me feel like it was a worthy movie. I loved the whole "why are you all wet?" theme throughout the movie, and the little things that triggered memories and flashbacks. I'll admit a few of the twists really caught me off guard. If you're looking for a movie worthy of a Shyamalan fanatic in its creativity and detail (if not the depth of its "message"), then you should give Shutter Island a shot.

Nice review NAMASTE. :-)

If you ever get your hands on Shutter Island the book. I want you to read it. It ruined my innocent brain. It is more twisting and shocking.  I have some questions though, if any one can answer it...

I don't want to spoil it... so let me know if I can PM anyone who have read the book or seen the movie and then I will PM you.

Thanks

Yeah, I kinda caught some little hints to more shocking stuff that the movie-going public isn't looking for in a movie. I like the way it was kind of there, but glossed-over.

I saw Shutter Island a while back, and I got exactly what I expected: An amazing, thought-provoking and mind-bending movie. The cinematography is terrific and the acting incredible. The screenplay is extraordinary and I'm really looking forward to watching it again. Jackie-Earl Haley was fantastic as well. I watched it with my brother and friends and we had such a blast. Watch this, watch this, watch this.

I also recently saw The Road, one heck of a movie, very good, at times disturbing and sad but very impacting.

If you think about Teddy Danniels/Andrew Laeddis, he is a crazy man. He has lost his mind. He is living in a very sad world. His world is surrounded by some harsh and emotional memories. Andrew Laeddis has made up the character TEDDY DANNIELS in his brain and he's been living and acting as Teddy Danniels who is a U.S. Marshal. If you remember at the end in the lighthouse he is confronted by Dr.Sheehan/Chuck and Dr. Crawley. Then Andrew suddenly snaps out of it and realizes that he is the one who shot his wife after she drowned the children in the lake. That's why he answers Dr.Crawley's questions accurately that he killed his wife because she drowned their kids.

Dr. Crawley tells Andrew that he has broken through the dilusions before, but always has always came back.

Later, Andrew is sitting on the steps at the end. Then Dr. Sheehan joins him, too. At this scene, Andrew Laedis is pretending as crazy. He is pretending to be crazy because he wants to be lobotomized. He asks Dr. Sheehan "Is it better to die a good man or to live as a monster". Andrew doesn't want to live knowing that he killed his wife. He doesn't want to live with the facts because he is the one ultimately responsible for her killing their children. If you remember earlier in the movie Andrew says "he knew something was wrong with her but he ignored it".

In the end he rises and walks with the guards and movie finishes. He is living in two worlds, but sadly he cannot just live as Teddy Daniels. A U.S Marshal came to the island to help find a missing patient.

No other opinion. He must accept the reality, but seems like he will not do it. He still thinks that he is Teddy. Actually, at the very end they show the lighthouse again. I was thinking may be took him again into the lighthouse. He had a special bed set up there.
