It's a family movie, and the directing is amazing. There's one scene where the little girl confronts the School Matron and the way Cuaron directed it is electrifying. You really feel the power and strength of the little girl that comes from within her. The way he moves the camera is BRILLIANT!!!! The whole movie is just beautiful to watch.

Hey AWESOME!  As soon as I logged onto Netflix it said they were reccomending A little Princess because I liked Beyond the Gates!

I agree with swiveltam about that scene, superb.  The scene that I find most gut wrenching though is when she goes out to buy food and there are the three people trying to sell roses to be able to get food, so gut wrenching, and then she gives them some of her food.  I cry every time I watch that scene. :( :'(
