Shyamalan gets ShoWest directing nod

M. Night Shyamalan, whose directorial credits include “The Sixth Sense,” “Signs” and “The Village,” will be honored as ShoWest Director of the Year.

The filmmaker will receive the award at the March 16 closing-night ceremonies of the exhibitors convention, which will take place at the Bally’s and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.

Shyamalan drew applause from exhibitors in Orlando in October when he spoke at the ShowEast convention, passionately arguing in favor of the theatrical motion picture experience and rejecting shrinking theatrical windows as well as simultaneous day-and-date releases across competing platforms.

Shyamalan’s seventh feature, “Lady in the Water,” will be released in the summer by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie stars Paul Giamatti as a man who discovers a mysterious young woman (Bryce Dallas Howard) living in the passageways beneath his apartment building’s swimming pool.

ShoWest, scheduled for March 13-16, is managed by the VNU Expositions Film Group, a division of VNU Business Media, parent company of the Hollywood Reporter.
