The Happening

Mark Wahlberg is Happening?

According to JoBlo’s Mike Sampson, Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star in Shyamalan’s The Happening. Mark would be playing Elliot Moore, a teacher and struggling musician. It’s his struggle, along with that of his ex-wife and daughter, that we follow along in the film. The deal is far from done, but he is what we would call “in talks” for the role. Those talks can be very preliminary or  very advanced. Keep in mind that publicists like to announce an actor’s next movie as their current movie is getting ready to hit theaters.

Wahlberg’s Shooter opens next Friday. Coincidence?

Oscar-nominee for THE DEPARTED. Nice. But he's no A-list megastar…

This would be the second Wahlberg that Night has worked with, the first being Donnie Wahlberg in The Sixth Sense.

For some reason I knew Mark Whalberg would be in talks with Night for
“The Happening”. How cool is that? By the way, did anyone else notice that title “The Happening” is similar to the tagline to “Signs”, which is “It's happening.”? Peace!

i hope not! i'm not a fan of MW. the guy must have the best agent on earth or something because i have no idea how he got where he is. he can play boston street types and that's it. well, that's not much of a stretch now, is it? there are so many other excellent young actors in that age range, not to mention better looking ones that would draw ladies to see the film too. i was really looking forward to this movie until i read that article.

It will be interesting having Mark Wahlberg as a lead in “The Happening”. Of course I think that Shyamalan can get the best out of his actors like Spielberg. Im just very happy to hear about Shyamalan's next project and that he's getting back on his feet. He is the best of the best, and “The Happening” is going to be a great film. See you in 2008!

I think Mark Wahlberg would be fine to me. Though i only watched him in The Departed and he was fantastic in it but as someone said he is not a megastar by any means. But an interesting choice for sure. 🙂

if youve only seen him in the departed…you should check out…four brothers and invincible…oh yeah and rockstar….all three are great movies.

I don't think I've seen anything with Wahlberg in it, but if you guys all say he'd be good for the part then I trust ya.

  12. Blessed Day says:

I've never heard of this guy before, but he's definately not a major superstar. PLus, how come the main character all of Night's movies (other than the Village) are men?

  13. doolittle says:

you've never heard of Mark Wahlberg?

  14. Maya says:

…who cares if there all men…

  15. blessed day says:

lol no i've never heard of mark wahlberg…maybe im just out of it. I don't have a problem that all the main characters are men i just find it odd that's all. maybe Night identifies with men more i don't know.

  16. me says:

it's the male movie stars that bring people to the movies, so it's not a coincidence. movies with male leads tend to make more $$$. it's just a fact.

  17. Paul Martin Specter says:

Hayao Miyazaki uses female leads in all of his movies. What's the problem? :wassat:

Who's never heard of Marky Mark?
