M. Night Shyamalan On 3D In Movies At 3D Summit

The other featured speaker of the 3D Entertainment Summit was famed Hollywood Producer M. Night Shyamalan.
In a rambling, confusing, and interesting 30 minute conversation about 3D, the industry, and how he felt the younger producers were being “forced” to plunge in and use this new approach to film making, the maker of The Devil, his newest film, went from wanting to use 3D, to not wanting to use it, to using parts of it in a film, to some place of still trying to work it all out.
Shyamalan’s latest is a devilish surprise success

There is a dominant opinion toward M. Night Shyamalan that many film lovers hold. They say, “I loved him at first when his movies were entertaining and intriguing, but he’s lost his touch.” Some critics think Shyamalan has been making the same movie — with a big twist at the end — for his whole career. And he doesn’t help matters by arrogantly inserting himself into his own movies á la Alfred Hitchcock.
Time, and a few admittedly bad movies, have allowed this sentiment to seep into the psyche of the general public to the point where it seems like Shyamalan has become a parody of who he used to be.
So if you were one of the people who booed and hissed when you saw Shyamalan’s name pop up after the trailer for “Devil,” you weren’t wrong for being cynical. You had the right to assume that “Devil” would be just another “Lady in the Water.” One more cookie-cutter attempt at “blowing your mind” courtesy of Mr. Shyamalan, the Notre Dame (all name, no substance) of directors.
However, after seeing “Devil,” it becomes clear that no one understands the criticisms of M. Night Shyamalan’s approach to filmmaking better than the man himself.
MTV presents ‘Unbreakable’ at NY Comic Con 2010

I thought we are the only ones obsessed with M.Night Shyamalan’s superhero thriller ‘Unbreakable’, but according to MTV’s Splash Page those folks are showing off their love and obsession of ‘Unbreakable’ in a different, yet unique manner. It’s a good news for all the M.Night Shyamalan fans out there and thanks to MTV for it.
M.Night Shyamalan’s dark superhero tale first hit theatres in 2000. After MTV pestering M.Night Shyamalan about a potential sequel for years and recently discovering that we might actually see it, but just not Unbreakable 2. MTV is making their collective love for the film official with a special 10th Anniversary panel during New York Comic Con attended by M.Night Shyamalan himself.
“MTV Presents ‘Unbreakable: Ten Years Later’ With M. Night Shyamalan” will be held Sunday, October 10, at 12:45 PM in the IGN Theater. And check it out the awesome trailer for the film below.
‘Last Airbender’ tops Australian box office

According to Digital Spy it seems like M.Night Shyamlan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER is a winner at the box office in Australia. The Last Airbender has gone straight to the top in Australia.
The big-screen adaptation of Nickelodeon’s popular cartoon series takes in $2.7 million to narrowly edge out last week’s chart topper Despicable Me to the number one spot.
The Other Guys and Tomorrow, When The War Began are at numbers three and four, while the Emma Stone-led high school comedy Easy A is a new entry at five.
Elsewhere, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore debuts at number seven, ahead of blockbusters Salt and Inception.
Devil Review: Devil would make Mr. Hitchcock smile

Devil. A story comes from the mind of Academy Award nominated writer/director/producer M.Night Shyamalan. It’s a new thriller and it’s about a group of strangers trapped in an elevator who realize that the Devil may be among them.
M.Night Shyamalan showed us in the past that spirits can be scary. Made us believe in ourselves that superheroes walk the earth. He revealed to us the mysteries behind the crop circles. Also warned us from entering the woods for that’s where the creatures wait. Then, Shyamalan showed us what really lives under the water. And, then the green effect, showing that they can turn on us anytime.
Now, Shyamalan’s mind thought to bring us a thriller which is set in a elevator. I wonder what comes next from the mind of M.Night Shyamalan. I am always looking forward for next Shyamalan story. From the beginning until now, Mr. Shyamalan brought us nothing, yet original ideas, characters, new premise, suspense, horror and always made us to question ourselves. And, Our faith. His films are made to not only enjoy, but to think about the messages they deliver. M.Night Shyamalan’s films are not to always about grabbing your girlfriend or boyfriend and eat pop-corn.
DEVIL – “A serviceable burst of high-end hokum…”

DEVIL from the mind of M.Night Shyamalan – snuck into theatres this friday September 17th into theatres without advance critic screenings. Was there something to worry about or does it deliver decent B-movie chills? Reviews all over the map.

Devil: Highly effective with a satifying finale

Just about few days ago it was announced that Universal studios won’t screen their thriller “Devil” produced by M.Night Shyamalan to critics. Is that a bad sign or a good sign for a film? – Well, let the fans and the audience to decide whether it’s a good sign or a bad sign not screening a film to the critics. If you ask me what I think about Universal Studios’ decision, my opinion is that it is a good sign, for all the critics out there can sit back and wait until the 17th of September which is the official release date of DEVIL.
The film is a supernatural thriller which comes from the mind of Academy Award nominated wirter/director/producer M.Night Shyamalan. Not going to mention its plot as you all know about it by now. Devil is the first in Shyamalan’s “Night Chronicles’ trilogy of films that he produces and others direct.
Thanks to a registered user at IMDB who posted his first review and it’s the first review not related to any of the critics that kept bashing M.Night Shyamalan since the release of “Lady In The Water” until the release of “The Last Airbender”.

Shyamalan’s next project announced

M.Night Shyamalan has not announced the next film he will be directing, but more words is beginning to leak out with regards to the next supernatural under his “Night Chronicles” banner. For those unaware, THE NIGHT CHRONICLES series will feature a selection of films that come from the mind of M.Night Shyamalan, like DEVIL, which hits theatres this weekend. The films under “Night Chronicles” aren’t directed by M.Night Shyamalan, though he is producing them, and, in most cases, he also came up with the original idea the film is bases on.
The second film under “The Night Chronicles’ is called “REINCARNATE”, and according to Deadline, director Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) will direct off a script by Chris Sparling (Buried). “Reincarnate” will follow a group of people on a jury who are “haunted” by supernatural forces while deciding the fate of an accused murderer. The production will begin in 2011, and Media Rights Capital is producing with M.Night Shyamalan.

Exclusive: Interview with Dowdle brothers

Little is known about the film. Cameras quietly rolled late last year in Toronto and Universal originally had it pegged for a February 2011 release. A trailer, however, received a good response and a free slot opened up on the studio’s schedule earlier than expected. Now, Devil is expected to reign in theaters on September 17.
John and Drew Dowdle, the brothers behind 2008′s Quarantine and the still unreleased The Poughkeepsie Tapes (thanks to the once indecisive and now ailing MGM), sat down with Shock Till You Drop to talk with me about their time directing and producing Devil, a film they became attached to while developing The Coup.
We cover all of the bases, from script development to working with Shyamalan to the film’s PG-13 rating.
Shock Till You Drop: Did Shyamalan seek you guys out for this or did you vie for the job?
John Dowdle: He actually saw The Poughkeepsie Tapes and he loved it. But he wanted to know we could do something fun. So he saw Quarantine and the next day invited us out.
Devil featurette

The featurette provides a few more clues into who or what the Devil might be, while also discussing the filmmakers’s perception for true horror. Chris Messina plays the lead role of Bowden, sobered-up homicide detective who is involved with a group of people trapped in an elevator – when they begin to mysteriously die one by one. From the mind of M.Night Shyamalan, Devil is the first entry in the filmmaker’s “Night Chronicles” trilogy.
