This Friday, Giamatti stars in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest fantasy-thriller Lady in the Water as building super Cleveland Heep, who experiences a lot of bizarre events when he finds a young woman living in the swimming pool. Next week, his voice can be heard in the role of an exterminator in Warner Bros.’ animated-comedy The Ant Bully.
A year shy of his 40th birthday, it’s pretty obvious that Giamatti has arrived, and is ready to set a new standard for what people come to expect from a leading man.
ComingSoon.net: Does it feel strange to follow the likes of Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix as the new star of an M. Night Shyamalan film?
Paul Giamatti: Yeah, definitely. It doesn’t feel strange because Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson or anybody could have played the part, too,but [Night] definitely indicated that it was a part he wanted a guylike me for, so I didn’t feel like… It is funny to think that, though.I tried not to think about it too much.
