The Night Chronicles’ ‘Reincarnate’ is still alive

Sunday, December 18th, 2011 by Rohan |

It was a little while back right after the release of Devil, which was the first chapter in Mr. Shyamalan’s new production banner, The Night Chronicles that his take on the second chapter for the new banner was Reincarnate. According to The Night Chronicles’ official website the plot of the film goes something like this, “While deciding the fate of an accused murderer… the jury is haunted by supernatural forces that hold the key to the case.”

At that time it was announced that (Buried) scribe, Chris Sparling was penning a script for the idea along with playwright/screenwriter, Paul Grellong (The idea behind the projects for The Night Chronicles is that Mr. Shyamalan will be writing the idea and will have another writer or group of writers along with new directors to helm these films). And, film-maker Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) was assigned to helm the project. But, throughout the year 2011 we didn’t hear anything regarding the project, for again according to TNC’s official site the production was supposed to commence during Fall 2011. Now the good news is that project is still alive and that is because Mr. Shyamalan recently on twitter  stated to a fan that “he is about to set up the second film called ‘Reincarnate.”

I enjoyed watching “Devil” and I am personally very intrigued with the idea of a production banner like The Night Chronicles, for we will still get to see films coming from the mind of Mr. Shyamalan and others helping him bringing the ideas live on the screen. Nothing else is yet announced and I am not sure if director Daniel Stamm is still attached to direct, I am still awaiting a response from ‘Media Rights Capital’ and Mr. Shyamalan himself. Whether Mr. Stamm is attached or not, we know what Mr. Shyamalan is doing and let’s hope we get to see Reincarnate sometime during 2012.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) and british actress, Sophie Okenedo (Hotel Rwanda) are in their early talks to join Will Smith and Jaden Smith in ‘After Earth,’ a project that scribes Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli), Stephen Gaghan (Traffic), and M.Night Shyamalan has spent time working on its script.  M.Night Shyamalan is going to helm the project for Columbia, a sci-fi action adventure, in which humans no longer resides on Earth. Will Smith is playing a hero, while Jaden is his son, considered a failure as a warrior. When the two crash-land on Earth and it is up to the son to save his father.

If both, Kravitz and Okenedo signs on the dotted lines, Okonedo would play Will Smith’s wife, while Kravitz will limn as his daughter. The shooting will commence in about few weeks. After Earth is set to release on June 2013.

Night’s next film After Earth goes into production early next year, with Jaden Smith and his father Will.  Shyamalan has tweeted:

I draw out every shot on my films. Just finished the second pass of them for After Earth. 676 shots! Four months of work.

9 weeks out from shooting After Earth. Looking at paintings/photos to find the tone of the film. Andrew Wyeth paintings always inspire me.

M. Night Shyamalan Joins Twitter and Facebook

M. Night Shyamalan on Twitter and Facebook

Writer and Director M. Night Shyamalan has been starting to break out of his shell, and his latest attempt at that is by joining Twitter and Facebook! The filmmaker is famously secretive and tends to keep to himself. Rumors for the longest time were that he didn’t frequent the internet or even have a personal email account. Over the past couple years though, the director has become more open to the current online and social media markets. In 2010, Shyamalan took it upon himself to personally invite a couple fansites and others to a breakfast in NYC, of which I was lucky enough be to one of the few selected. Shyamalan was extremely gracious and open to fan feedback, which is counter to the negative, incorrect reputation he has gained throughout the years.

No doubt that the man has developed a rather thick skin when it comes it criticisms or film-goer perceptions, and his latest venture into the social media sphere proves that he is willing to test that thick skin. My first concern was the waves of criticisms he will likely receive, but I have faith that the Writer/Director will continue to use the services to keep fans up to date with the latest news. His Twitter and Facebook are currently unverified, but the links were shared on Google+ by Gary Whitta himself, a good friend of Night’s, and the writer of his upcoming film: After Earth.

Stephen Gaghan Polishes ‘After Earth’ for Shyamalan

Thursday, November 10th, 2011 by Dr Malcolm Crowe |

Stephen Gaghan and M. Night Shyamalan

Variety is reporting that Academy Award winning writer Stephen Gaghan recently handed in a draft of the screenplay for M. Night Shyamalan’s next film, After Earth. The story and the first drafts of the screenplay were written by Gary Whitta, writer of The Book of Eli. Shyamalan then rewrote the script to add his voice and own perspective to the story. Now we’re learning that Gaghan, acclaimed writer of Traffic and Syriana, was asked to polish the script before it goes to into production in February. Gaghan submitted his revisions to the studio last month, according to Variety, and they say he may continue to tweak and polish the script with Shyamalan in the remaining months before shooting.

The film will star Will and Jaden Smith as a father and son who crash-land on Earth 1,000 years after mankind has deserted the planet. The crash leaves the father injured and immobile, so it becomes up to the son to scour the abandoned planet for help. This will be the first time in Shyamalan’s decade-plus long career where he is directing a film he is not the sole screenplay writer of. After Earth, which may or may not be the final title, is set to release on June 7, 2013. Vote for what you think will be the best title in our Facebook Poll.

Shyamalan’s Next Film Titled ‘After Earth’?

Thursday, September 29th, 2011 by Dr Malcolm Crowe |

M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth

According to an article posted by Mainline Media News, M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming sci-fi film starring Will and Jaden Smith will be titled After Earth. The film was formally titled One Thousand A.E., but recent reports had stated that the film would eventually going by another, then unknown, title. The Mainline Media News article reveals that director M. Night Shyamalan was at the Valley Forge Military Academy doing research for the film. Shyamalan’s assistant said that the filmmaker was researching the academy’s training camp because Jaden Smith will play a military cadet of the future in the film, which according to her is titled “After Earth.”

The main reason I use a question mark at the end of our article is because the Mainline Media News write-up then goes on to get one of Shyamalan’s other titles incorrect, stating Unbreakable was titled Unbroken. They also then refer to Shyamalan’s upcoming film under its initial title, the aforementioned One Thousand A.E..

So which is it? It seems reasonable to assume that the article’s writer just did poor research in his article about M. Night Shyamalan doing research — ironic. After all, it’s more likely that he got his quote right and the rest wrong, especially since everything else Shyamalan’s assistant reportedly said fits right in line with the rest of the news we’ve heard about the premise of this film. The film follows a young boy who navigates an abandoned Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crash lands on the planet. The project is set to go on production in early 2012 and has release date of June 7, 2013.

Shyamalan’s Will Smith starrer gets a release date

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 by Rohan |

Since Mr. M.Night Shyamalan loves to keep all things locked in secret when it comes to his new projects we have not been able to post anything fresh on the site lately regarding his next project which is starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. For some who are not aware of this project we reported it back here before that it is a story set in future written by M.Night Shyamalan himself and The Book of Eli scribe Gary Whitta. I personally enjoyed the story and concept behind The Book of Eli and I am excited to see Mr.Whitta and Mr. Shyamalan working together.

Now according to folks from BoxOfficeMojo Sony has set a release date of June 7, 2013 for the film which was formerly called ‘One Thousand A.E.’ The story follows a young boy who navigates an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes. The project is set to go on production early next year.

Will & Jaden Smith meeting with Shyamalan

Thursday, August 11th, 2011 by Rohan |

Well, it’s about time to contemporize you all about this untitled project of Mr. Shyamalan which is written by him and Gary Whitta. This is one of those films that I am athirst for its official release date and any official news. Philadelphia Daily News’ Dan Gross has just reported this morning that Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith are in fact in the area meeting with M.Night Shyamalan.

Will and Jaden according to the Hollywood Reporter are playing a father and son role  in a story which is  set 1,000 years from now. The two previously shared the screen playing father and son in ‘The Pursuit of Happyness.”  Yesterday M.Night Shyamalan was in the area scouting locations when he was spotted at the old 3M Factory in Bristol, where he shot his 2005 bedtime story “Lady In The Water.” And Will Smith is also expected to check out some of the locations later during this week. I am personally super excited that they are slowly starting to make this project and I cannot wait for more information. So, stay tuned for more news on this.
