Trap is now available on Digital.

After opening in theaters on August 2, M. Night Shyamalan’s latest thriller has already made the jump to at-home viewing. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment says the film is available beginning August 30, 2024 for Premium Digital ownership and 48-hour rental on participating platforms.

That is a quick turnaround, though maybe not a surprising one for a movie that lives on tension, reveals, and the kind of detail-heavy construction that tends to benefit from a second watch. Trap stars Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Alison Pill, and Hayley Mills, and follows a father and daughter at a packed pop concert who slowly realize that the event is tied to a much darker operation unfolding around them.

The concert setting gave the movie its own visual identity right away. Between the arena scale, the Lady Raven material, and the uneasy way the story turns a giant public event into a pressure cooker, Trap feels a little more openly performative than some of Shyamalan’s recent work. That also makes the digital release easy to understand. This is the kind of movie plenty of fans will want to rewatch to catch the little shifts in expression, the way information is held back, and the moment-to-moment choices that either sell the premise or push it over the edge for them.

The Digital release is also the first stop in the movie’s home rollout. The 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions are still scheduled for November 5, which means physical-media collectors will need to wait a little longer.

For now, though, the important part is simple: Trap is out of theaters-only mode. If you missed it on the big screen or just want to go back through it without an audience breathing at the same moments you are, the film has officially arrived at home.

There is another obvious draw here too: the music angle. Between Lady Raven’s performances and the arena staging, the movie has a little more pop sheen than some of Shyamalan’s recent work, which makes the home release feel less like an afterthought and more like a second phase.
