M. Night Shyamalan has posted the first Night Diaries video on his new YouTube channel. If you have not subscribed yet, now would be a good time.

In this first episode, Night sits down with the production diary he kept while making Signs and starts reading through it on camera for the first time in about 25 years. He lands on entries from September 2001, including one where he writes about having to let a young actor go before Rory Culkin came into the film. He also talks about how anxious he felt about playing Ray Reddy himself, and how strange it is to read those pages knowing the world was about to change two days later.
From there, the video turns into something more personal than a standard behind-the-scenes story. Night reads the short September 11 entry he wrote after the attacks, reflects on how that national grief collided with the emotions already wrapped up in Signs, and then flips ahead to later entries about the basement scenes, long shooting days, frustration on set, and the emotional final stretch of production. He leaves plenty of the texture in the video itself, so I do not want to give away every moment here. But that is the heart of it: this is Night looking back at what making Signs actually felt like while he was living through it.
We loved this.
Night is not delivering a cleaned-up anniversary speech here. He is surprised by his own notes, a little thrown by some of what he finds, and very open about the pressure, exhaustion, and emotion tied up in that film. That makes the whole thing an honest retrospective.
It also makes Signs feel newly alive again. We have spent years talking about the movie’s fear, faith, grief, and atmosphere. Hearing Night look back into that period through his own handwriting has given all of that an extra layer. If Night Diaries keeps going in this direction, this could become one of the best things on his channel.
