Since we’re all twiddling our thumbs and waiting ever so patiently for a teaser trailer for The Happening, let’s take a look back at a fun and energetic take on an interview that M. Night did back in 2004 when he was making the rounds for The Village.

For a close look at what drives our favorite director, why he chooses to act in his films, his approach to writing, and how he deals with anything that he is afraid of, check out the following interview:

M. Night Shyamalan Interview from 2004

  1. I thought it was interesting how Sixth Sense started out and how much he worked, reworked, and rewrote it.
I know I should know this by now, but for some reason I always think successful writers know something I don't know or possess some mysterious trait us little guys don't have. Sometimes I think I take for granted that their writing projects spring from the keyboard like magic–*poof* Presto! All set and ready for multi-million dollar production.
It's nice to be reminded that even the pros have to work like heck to perfect their craft. I can work, and I can write, so maybe there's hope for me…. 🙂

  2. Love your thoughts, problemchild. I think that this is exactly what Night is about – he really embraces the idea of earning everything that you get in life. There's no doubt in my mind that he has worked for everything that he has achieved in his life thus far. This is particularly impressive when you consider that both of his parents are physicians.
